I have a 2s, 7.2v, Lipo battery and it is listed as a Transmitter battery. Can these batteries be used to replace the 9.6 NiCd battery?

It depends on your transmitter, what model do you have?

In the 6EX the voltage from a 2S Lipo is too low.

When fully charged a 2S battery will be 8.4 volts,

The 6EX manual recommends landing as soon as possible if the voltage is below 8.9 Volts and land immediately if below 8.5 Volts.

A 3S Lipo is possible in the 6ex and many people use them successfully however there is a risk that too high voltage from a fully charged 3S battery (12.6 Volts) may damage the radio.

I've been using a Turnigy Nano-tech 2500 mAh 3S lipo for two months in my Futaba 6EX Tx. Works great and no problems.
