Default Need charger and possibly batteries for 3 ECX Amps

My boys (6, 8, 11) are purchasing 3 ECX Amps. I would like to buy them a charger. It would be best if the charger can charge NiMH and Lipo, be rather quick in charging, and charge multiple batteries at a time. Asking a lot I know. I have several mid-high end older PC power supplies from old gaming rigs. My budget is around $100.

What do you recommend for a charger(s)?

They are buying their own batteries. I think it would be best if they get some higher Mah NiMH batteries. Maybe going to 7-cell? They will probably put $35-40 each towards these.

What would you recommend for a batteries?

Thanks,

Michael

For a charger around $100, I wold buy the hitec x2 ac plus. It can charge 2 batteries at a time, 100 watts on each in dc mode, so it should charge smaller batteries fairly quickly. I have also heard good things about the icharger 106B, but I think that can only do one battery at a time. I am not sure what size batteries you plan to charge, but if they are fairly small, then the hitec x4 80 might be a better choice, It is a bit more than $100 though. I myself just ordered a hitec x2 ac plus, it should come within a few days.

As far as the batteries go, you could probably get some decent lipos for less than $40 each. If the trucks are lipo ready, than that might be a better option. Make sure that the lipos are treated properly, because they can become dangerous if mistreated. Nimhs wont give you the same performance, but they will work fine. Lipos can be charged faster than nimhs, so they pretty much have a advantage everywhere over nimhs.

Hope that helps, Hubert

+1 on the SkyRC re-branded charger. I myself am looking at the SkyRC D100 (same as Hitec X2) for the sole purpose of measuring the internal resistance of packs. It is about the lowest priced dual AC/DC charger that can read the IR of each cell.

Yeah, the skyrc is the same charger as the hitec.

But with the hitec, you get a warranty and customer service. Plus, I think that hitec put in their own software. It's up to you if that makes it worth the extra. Both of these chargers look to be good value, hopefully mine will arrive soon...
