Batteries and ammo box
#1

Do you think two 500 milli amper hour 1s batteries can be contained by a metal ammo box made for 38 caliber bullets if they were to explode inside of it?

Yes.
People are using metal ammo boxes to store multiple very large cells (6S 5500mAh).
But, I use concrete cinder blocks instead if I am storing them in the garage.
More importantly, LiPo really don't explode.
They will catch fire and burn uncontrollably, but they don't explode.
And, this thermal runaway happens if they get damaged, over charged, over discharged or over-heated.

The ammo boxes are great for storing all size lipo packs. I have two the smaller for my field box that I put vertical dividers in to allow storing the packs end up. I mark the packs with green and red squares of tape on each end. I store the fully charged pack green end up. Once used I put them in red end up. Works great I can get 6 - 8 packs (4S 1800 - 2800 mah) in the case. The big one is for long term storage of old packs that I am waiting to dispose of.

Putting lots of batteries in a box ? Defeats the purpose of the box. As each battery catches fire. It quickly ignites the rest of the batteries. The RATE that heat & smoke are generated from 1... 6 cell 3000 mahr battery is massive in such a small space. All will quickly ignite as 1 huge battery.......That box will fill a basement or garage quickly with toxic smoke. A real mess.
Do not store the dead ones either. RUN them down to zero & into the trash. Why keep them around ? I discharged bad packs to zero.the removed the connector. Stripp the insulation off of bothpower leads. Twist them together. Into the trash with NO FIRE risk to any place.
