PROBLEMS WITH DURALITES PLUS

Dear Duralite Direct Support,
I have several Duralites Plus. However now I have problems with one brand new 1900 mAh dual redundant pack I use for ignition on my 36% Extra.
From time to time it will not receive charging despite a measured 1 amp load voltage of 7.0 V. When it do not receive charging the charger shows full pack. Following several attempts it might all of a sudden receive charging. As long as it receive charging for a periode of time I can measure that the 1 amp load voltage rises. I have tried several different charges with same result.
What is wrong???

Kato, if the battery pack is allready fully charged and the charger is properly adjusted to the correct end cell voltage then the pack will draw very little current Nicd cells have a very flat discharge curve untill they are almost totally discharged then they really fall off fast. It is refered to as kneeing over.
The way I charge them is to monitor the pack voltage while loading to the advertised discharge rate and stoping when the series string voltage = 1.1v/c while keeping track of the time it takes to reach this point. That is to say that a 4 cell pack should read 4.4 vdc total string volts under load. Then check the temperture if they are cool then connect them to the charger and charge them for a period of time = to 10x the discharge time. The important thing to monitor is the temperature of the pack. It will get warm but should never be allowed to get hot! If it starts to get too warm discontinue charging and allow it to cool off but do not count this period of cooling time in the recharge period.

Kato is using the Duralite Plus charger, and the above post is incorrect. You cannot control the charge process. That is taken care of by the charger and is factory set.

Put the batteries on charge, and don't worry about the lights. The charger will sometimes take some time for the lights to come on. It should take approximately 4 hours to fully charge your pack. I always plug mine in, and come back and check on them in a few minutes and see that the lights come on. I have never had them not come on unless the pack was too full to take a charge. If you plug them in the night before, they will be ready for the nect day. Always check batteries before every flight with a 1 amp load applied. Should your charger fail to charge your batteries, contact Jack and talk with him about the issue. From what you have stated it sounds like things are fine. Hope this helps you.
