I just recently got back into rc'ing (after about 8 years) and i need to replace my battery packs.
my car has a 6 cell flat 7.2v 1400ma battery
tower hobbies suggested I purchase a 1500ma battery
but I see they sell 1900ma 6 cell batteries as well.
my questions are:
Can I buy a 1900ma battery and use them, and if so what advantages would they give me?
Is there any new type of 7.2v battery out that will last longer?
I have an aftermarket motor and kills my battery in about 2 minutes, im not sure if thats normal or not.
Thanks

Hi, welcome to the universe. NIMH batts are now up past 3000 mah to 4200 mah and if you have or get the proper charger then 3000+ can be had for $19 or so. Your batt is probably worn out from age and use.
the mah we are listing will determine the runtime, what kind of car you have? Hopefully can get around 10 minutes of runtime. If you have an old charger and do not want to make the switch over to nimh batts then the 1900 - 2400 nicad is the max.

Thanks!, I have a Tamiya Dirt Thrasher with a RS-540sl Black Motor Sprint 16.3k rpm and a Hobbico 900 ac/dc charger.
The charger says on the box to connect 6-cel(7.2) or a 7 cell (8.4) Battery
Thanks again

The charger is designed for nicad and can do a 2400 by running it thru 2 charge cycles. It is possible to do a 3000 nimh also, but not recommended. I think if I were you and was going to keep the 900 hobbico then I would get the 1900-2400 nicad.
It is also possible (not likely) that your charger is not chargeing anymore and the battery is ok? it should be warm when done charged.

here, check the peak and orions both have 2-2400 for $30 something.
I have the 7 cell 3000 mah for $19 and they are nimh batts, you would need a different charger to be the best and make sure 7 cells will fit because it is longer.
