Default A123 powered F150 Powerwheel

Use to run 18-24V in my sons powerwheels. But charging them became a pain over time. I put in 6s1p A123 in there and he had a blast. 10s1p was just too much voltage for those poor motors. One run and you could smell them burn. I'll put my eagletree on it today and see what's it's pulling. The batteries were at ambient temps yesterday after he was dune "bashing". Put it back on the charger and 2000mah went back in.

Here are the pics and Vid

Cool use of A123 cells and smart move on your part. Label on the pack looks really nice also.

I know a vendor who used some other LiFePo cells to make up battery pack for his daughter,s power Wagon / Jeep or such.

I keep saying tha I am going to use my retired A123 cells in flashlights and such but they never seem to want to be retired.

One 3S has 496 flights on it and a 4S had 320 flights on it and both of these are still providibg over 2000 mAh. Most of my other packs have less than 50 flights on them and I have a bunch of packs.

My son and I did a 12 minute run onroad. Well I was biking beside him. Pulling around 3.8Amps average at 19.4V. Average was 73 watts with a peak of 1220Watts!

Check out the attached graph.

I let my son drive a few more times using the same 6s1p A123 pack on grass and concrete. Power usage went up a bit, but not by much. After the pack dumped, he asked to go faster, so I swapped in 7s1p A123's. He was content after that. The great thing is that I can charge these packs up in half an hour with my cheapo charger. Once I get my "better" charger, the charge time will drop down to 15 minutes. The great thing is, that after he is done driving around, I take the same packs and stick them in my RC's.

This is the on-offroad graph

This is the onroad only 7s1p test.

Here is another clip of him tripping the circuit breaker and getting upset that it doesn't want to do wheelies. This one is on 7s1P A123

Thanks!

These cells are great to say the least.

Cool project Snelle and nice alternative app for A123s. I am thinking about converting my electric lawn mower. The original lead battery is losing steam and takes forever to charge. A123s could do it good. Seems there would be an aftermarket for such A123 packs, but hey who am I to tell A123 how to market anything...

An A123 powered lawnmower would be awesome to see. Last hurricane, I added deans to my 10M candle power flashlight and swapped in the lighter A123 cells. Light is even brighter then with the lead acid that was in there. Just got me a used set of HD bulbs and module from a toyota, that I'm itching to swap into the flashlight running A123 cells. All fun projects.

These projects are great! Hey snellemin, you have a lucky son! What is your "good charger" going to be?

I tell you, if 2s2p A123 fit in my Stampede I would go A123 so fast. Lower capacity of the 2s1p is the ONLY thing holding me back at this point. Still, I will probably go A123 eventually. How long have I been lurking on this forum without owning A123?
