Default How to tell if a battery is charged

Hi,

I am just getting in to the hobby. Can you folks share with me how you "know" that your RX battery is charged other than right when you take it off the charger and the light is "green" ? Also, how do you know how much more "run time" you have left ?

I dont want to end up with a RX failing because I run low on battery.

thanks

jon

Insufficient info to answer your question. What type and size of battery? If LiPo or Pb then a voltage measurement is sufficient; if a Nixx, the answer is much more involved and inexact.

If you're talking about the standard batteries that come with new radio setups, then charge it overnight before you fly, then check it before each flight with either a loaded voltmeter, a voltwatch, or a digital multimeter that you've made a receptacle for. What you need to know is the voltage the battery gives you under load. The products in the links above put a load on your battery. The other two I mentioned use your flight system for the load. The nice thing about them is that you can also use them to see if you have a servo binding or any odd drains in your system.
