Handheld Starter w/ 1 3s 5000mah lipo?

Can I power my Handheld Starter with a single 3s 5000mah lipo?

Would I need anything special other than a plug on my starter?

As long as the C rating (capable of providing a high enough peak current) is adequate, it should work well.

Would 30c be sufficient?

3s is a little weak. I'd be looking for a 5s or just use a 12 volt battery.

trying to get away from having to use a gel cell or battery of that type. Looking for something I can easily move around with. Would running 2 packs like I mentioned in series work better?

I start everything up to small gas engines on 4s A123 batteries. Can't beat it for the size, weight, charge rate, etc..

I use 2 2650 three cell lipos in parallel. starts my saito 2.20. I haven't tried it on gas engines

Last year i put a well used 2100mAH 20C 3 cell on a tower starter built 1/32 ply box
It now works better than the 12v motocyle batt i used for last 8 years
i think because the power cable is 1 inch now so less V drop, watt meter at full stall about 30A hard to measure in start mode but less than stall

bottom line sooooo much better than moving big battery around

BTW only charge to 80% i use 3.9V per cell recharge at around 3.7 to 3.6 but that's most of summer

I just made a Deans to banana adapter and plug my old starter right into the female banana jacks.

I just converted my Sullivan Hi-Tork starter to a 4s1p 2200 battery.
It is awesome! I am starting 40 to 60 size engines.
I haven't charged in several weeks vs weekly with the NiCds.

Good Luck,
