Which Charger?
Hi guys, I am looking for a AC / DC Dual battery balance charger which will charge my Li Po 5000maH 6S 20C battery. I would also like to be able to simultaneously charge, discharge, and trickle charge my Ni MHi Tx (8 cell) and Rx (4 cell) batteries as well. Any suggestions? :D
Thanx, Mark |
RE: Which Charger?
About a year ago, I purchased a Hobby People TAZR. It is multi-chemistry, very easy to use, does exactly what it says it will do, and has a great manual. Plus, I thought the price was great.

RE: Which Charger?
I have two of these "4-button" 50watt do-all chargers and they work fine. I use them at the field and keep my higher priced charger at home.
http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...d-charger.html They aren't as fast as the higher wattage(higher priced) chargers but they work . |

I need a charger too, any recommendation from one from modelsport or als hobbies?

RE: Which Charger?
Has anyone tried these Turnigy ACCU Cell 6 or 8 chargers? How long do they last? Their price is definetely right, but are they reliable and do they do what they say they will do.

RE: Which Charger?
Thanx for all of your responses everyone. Ok, I have been doing a lot of research about chargers and it looks like I am going to go with the Turnigy Mega 300w 8s Balance Charger/Discharger, from Hobby King. The price is right and it allow me to charge 2 batteries at the same time. However the charger requires a power supply of at least 30 amps. Any suggestions for a power supply for this charger? What are you guys using for power supplies? Charger details: Note: You will need a power supply exceeding 30Amps for bench top use! Features: • Dual power output 150Wx2 (300W total) • Supports Li-XX, Ni-XX and PB batteries • Store up to 10 battery settings • Large cooling holes on the top edge of the case • Dual temperature controlled cooling fans • Wide input voltage range (11~18VDC) Specs: Charging Output: 2 x 150W (300w Total) Input Voltage: 11~18v DC Charge Current Range: 0.1~7.0A Discharge Current: 0.1~5.0A Discharge Power: 2x50watt Balance Current Drain: 200mAh/cell Li-XX Cell Count: 1~8s Ni-XX Cell Count: 1~27cells Pb Battery Voltage: 2~36v Battery Setup Memories: 10 Intelligent Temp Control: Yes Cooling: Dual Fan Weight: 903g Dimension: 188x136x58.5mm Includes: 1 x JST-XH balance board 1 x Alligator clip charge lead 1 x Tamiya style charge lead 1 x Jr/Futaba Rx charge lead 1 x 4mm bullet connector pig tails (fit your own connectors) 1 x Power input alligator clip pair Thanx, Mark |
RE: Which Charger?
You can convert a 350 watt computer power supply or you can buy the 350 watt power supply from Hobby King or.........

ORIGINAL: mark IX Has anyone tried these Turnigy ACCU Cell 6 or 8 chargers? How long do they last? Their price is definetely right, but are they reliable and do they do what they say they will do. Thanx, Mark So I gave the 6 away to a friend and bought two accucel 8s and two of the 350watt power supplies. Mine have both had moderate use for well over 2 years with no issues. The 350watt power supply is a bit noisy but that is just the fan keeping it cool. I have the 240 Volt (for Australia) Version of this one - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...00v_120v_.html Works great. |
RE: Which Charger?
It only needs 30A min because it has a low voltage input. That would give it it's most efficient performance.
You only need a supply that exceeds the batteries being charged at their rating. Charging 8S you'll need a very high Amp rating power supply. If it was capable of having a 24V input that would make it much better too work with. |
RE: Which Charger?
4*60, I was going to convert an old computer 350W PS until I read the label an it only put out 18A, when the charger requires a min of 30A.
Trax de Max, can you explain further? Do you mean the required PS current rating depends the batteries maH rating and its voltage? For instance, an 8S battery rated at 5000mah X 29.6 v = 148W. So to charge this battery, it will only require 5A and 148W? Can you elaborate..... Mark |
RE: Which Charger?
most chargers that charge 8s, have input voltage of at least 30V and the charger boosts the voltage to higher than the 8s.
The less voltage the more the amps, the supply will only give what is on the output side, 8s5000 is 168Watts with 12V supply that would be 14A+ 25% for losses to charge the 8s lipo at 5A and that supply would be working hard. If it was 24V supply, the current halves to 7A + 25% to charge at 5A |
RE: Which Charger?
Most of the time I will be using 6s 4000maH batteries. Or I could use 2 4s batteries if I need to go to the 8s size for larger models. Do you think the 6s situation would be better?

Mark My Gaui X5 Heli uses 6S 4000Mah (40C) and I have only ever used the Accucel 8 to charge it.. It maxes out around 6.7amps and usually takes 35-40 minutes.. Never had an issue.. I'll make a video for you. |
