basic understanding of batteries

I had a guy I employee give me a couple traxxas stampede home made build ups...they have basically no name brushed motors and comparable escs....they ran a test with 1800 mih nimh batteries on the bench. Once at home I attempted to hook up a new turnigy 2c 7.4 5000 mih lipo and things got HOT quick! Why is this? I got these batteries for my brushless boats I am building and bought enough for both the boats and cars but am now seeing this may not work..but would like to know why. .

Blessings

Hi Craig,

When you say things got Hot, do you mean the Battery got hot or the Motor and ESC?

Any chance of a photo of the Motor / ESC with specifications visible if possible.

What voltage were the nimh batteries? A 7.4 Volt Lipo when fully charged is closer to 8.4 volts.

Are you sure they are 2C or perhaps 20C Batteries?

With a little more info we should be able to find the problem.

The esc and wires to it only...we disconnected before the motor got hot.....the battery seems fine. ...is there a no lipo rule on these small brushed motors and escs? I though more would be better!

It the wires got hot it means the current was too much, it also explains the ESC getting hot.

Without knowing the exact specifications of the motor and ESC I am guessing 8.4 Volts from the Lipo was too much.

http://watchfree.me/83/w.pngbe careful about the "HOT", should check the problem first. agreed with rob.
