Initial Charge question
 

I have just purchased 2 1950 6volt nimh packs from noBS batteries(4-ohms of impedencs/internal resistance).

The battery package indicates to slow charge them at 200 ma for 14-16 hours.

My multi charger does not have a 200 ma setting. I have a 100 ma setting and a 250 ma setting.

Do you think I can use the 250 ma setting without damaging the packs, or should I use the 100 ma setting for 18-20 hours?

All replys are greatly appreciated...I don't want to damage these packs, Please help

Actually, you should probably go with the 100ma setting for more like 28-32 hours. If manufacturer recommends 14-16 hrs at 200ma, then you would need to double it for 100ma.

Going with the 250ma probably won't cause damage, but it would be better to be on the safe side. Overcharging at more than .1C on initial charges can overwhelm the battery more quickly than if it is below .1C. I'd just play it safe and go with the 100ma setting.

Did the instructions mention fully discharging the pack before charging, or is it already discharged?

250mA for about 12 hours would be fine. I personally would feel the packs periodically to check for excessive heat build-up - especially during the last couple hours.
250mA for around 10 hours followed by 5-7 hrs at 100mA would be fine too.
If you go the 100mA route you'll want to leave them on charge for at least 24 hrs. This rate may adequately charge the packs but, being half of C/10 (C/20), the results may be unpredictable for a 'first charge'.

If you can, cycle them a few times before committing them to use.

I estimate 250 ma @ 12 hrs or better yet 100 ma @ 50 hrs.
