Engine starter's battery

The battery that can be directly connected to a popular engine starter no longer charges. I can't even get it to discharge.

It is a sealed, lead acid battery. Is there any way to resurrect it?

If it won't charge or discharge... its done. Try to find the proper recycling facility. (the local hospital can help you find where to send it... they go through a LOT of batteries. Occasionally, they'll take it for you.)

The lead and acid of these batteries should be kept out of landfills if possible.

These batteries can fail very suddenly. Some of the imported batteries have a very small anode connection that just plain disolves long before the battery is done. The heavy current draw has a lot to do with the problem since internal heat accellerates the reaction. A bigger battery usually lasts longer because it's internals are heavier and not subject to the effects of heating to the same extent.
