Help with new 7.2v nimh 4200 mah packs?

I just bought two 4200mah 7.2 volt nimh stick packs from my lhs for my electric stampede, and I was wondering do I have to charge them, or do they come fully charged right out of the package? Whats the best way to tackle this? Thanks in advance

You'll need to do a form charge on them before use. Just search the forum for form charge and you should get quite a few threads explaining the process.

No batteries come charged from the factory to use, they usually have around 50% charge so you want to fully charge them before using. There are lots of chargers out there from $20 to $200, what's your budget?

Most nimh come discharged and need charged before use. Charge them up to be sure. Or use them to find out for sure.

Charge at 420 ma for 16 hours. Your charger probably has a 500 ma setting (.5amps) so use that. It may take 3 or more cycles of this to bring them up to full capacity. Discharge at 0.3C (1.2 amps) down to 1 volt per cell between forming charges.

Batteries need to be charge first. First discharge the battery then you can fast charg the 4 amp max is best to prolong battery life. Alway try to slow (trickle charge) your battery often. This will increase mah (run time) A Tekin 112 charger is a good charger. around $50 75 used. Make sure the firm ware charging software is H28 or higher for NIMH batteries.

If the voltage is close then it can be charged with it. Check out Red's site "All about Wall Wart Chargers" article.

Could I just run it untill it dead out of the box, then charge it from there to a full charge, or will that destroy the battery?
