rec pack does not get warm while charging??

Hello, I am charging my brand new 4.8v nicad battery pack(800 mah) and the pack is not warm at all. It has been on for 16 hours. It feels like it did when I first put it on the charger. Should it get warm? I am charging at a 55mah rate.

Let us use this formula to estimate how long it will take to reach a full charge: (800/55) * 1.5 = 21.8 hrs

The battery pack will probably be fully charged after about 22 hours using that charge rate. And at the rate of 55 ma the charge you are using is a C/14.5 charge. This is below the C/10 rate that is normally suggested as being a 'slow charge'. Due to the low rate of charge the batteries will probably not get warm even if they are left on for a lot longer than 21.8 hours.

The best way to test them to see if they indeed DID take a full charge would be to discharge them with a 'cycler' after the 21.8 (or close) hour charge and read what amount of charge was found in the pack.

At a 55 mA charge it will not get very warm, maybe 85 degrees F if the ambient is 70 degrees F.
