is there a plane similar to Sig four star 60
I thought I would like to get a Sif Four Star 60 ARF but find that they will not be available for some time, if at all.
Is there another plane with similar flying characteristics that would be more readily available?

Hangar 9 Pulse XT
Both of these have similar characteristics to the 4-Star. However, the Tiger is listed as temporarily unavailable as well.
Hope this helps

if you can't get ahold of one of those planes, maybe you would like to try your hand at building. i'm in the middle of a tiger 2 build, the .60 being basically the same, and it's super easy building. i'm not sure if you are restricted on time and just want something to fly right now or if you haven't ever built anything before, but... it's all pretty easy and a lot of people here willing to help you through it all. what are you flying right now?
the pulse XT is a really nice plane too. if i was into ARF's, i would go with one of those or the great planes escapade. good luck finding something you decide on or getting ahold of the 4*60.

I think as the story I have been told goes, The guy who created the four star 60 later designed the Bruce Tharpe Venture 60. Its pretty much close to the same thing as a four star, so I have been told.

Bruce Tharpe's Wesite says the Venture 60 is no longer available. I wish it was still available, I love his Flyin King!

In the ARFs the next best thing to a 4* is the H-9 Pulse. The Pulse is a pretty plane and in the air it's the same thing as a 4*.

Tiger 60.
Honestly, I believe that nothing can touch it in regards to flying well. Extremely precise and trainer like, yet it can do whatever you ask of it. I would recommend more rudder area, but that would be about it... It's great on water with floats, too!

RE: is there a plane similar to Sig four star 60
Igot one of those to use as my second plane so I would not be too worried if I crashed it but there are some big drawbacks.
There are no parts available. You break a wing you have to rebuild the wing, no chance of buying just a replacement wing.
Ihad to do quite a few changes to it just to get the controls to operate. The control rod tubes were at such an angle you could barely move the rods by hand let alone a servo.
The hardware with the kit is rubbish. I spent quite a bit on decent hardware from my LHS. Stuff that I would not have had to purchase with a better quality kit.
On the plus side it is doing exactly what I wanted from it. Getting me back the confidence that Ilost when Iwrecked my Mustang PTS!! Quite nice to fly and does aerobatics to beyond my current level but when Iassembled it Iknew that it wouldn't survive a heavy landing like the Hangar-9 Mustang would, and I have been proven right.
Ijust got a set of 4-star style aluminium landing gear mounts to bolt to the fuselage and these are better than the wind mounts were until I pulled the bottom of the fuselage off!!
Just some food for thought, you may not save the money you expect to with a cheaper kit.

The Venture 60 is very much like the 4 Star 60, and the Bingo 60 is too, if you can find one. I don't see much in the Tiger that reminds me of the 4 Star at all.

G'day
Building the Four Star series is very easy. The wing is designed so you can build it flat on the board, the fuse is designed so you can put the fire wall in then assemble the rest and hold it together with rubber bands and then glue. They are really easy to build and fast too.
I have built three Four Star 40s (I currently have one I built recently) one Four Star 60 and one (ARF) Four Star 120. I love them all.
I was flying the Four Star 60 today. It has a Saito 100 on the front and it is just about perfect.
I also recently contacted Bruce Tharpe about his Venture 60 and he wrote back to say he will be doing some more kits later in the year.
He also says that the Four Star 60 needs to be landed perfectly or it will bounce. He is right. But it is great fun getting to grips with it and getting the landing right. I have found that about 20% expo on the elevator really helps smooth out the landings.
So go on, be daring. Build a kit. It is half the fun and does not take as long as you may think. AND, the one you build will be better than ANY ARF.
Cheers

PS, that is my FS 60 in my avatar.

If you want an ARF that is similar to the Tiger 60 and you don't want to wait, you might try this http://www.texasrcplanes.com/lonestar50lw.html. The lonestar is basically a Tiger II or Tiger 60 under a different name. I have an older version called the Explorer L from this same company. They are great to work with and provide good customer service.

Ditto on the H9 Pulse series and the Great Planes Escapade.... .
I would also echo what was said about a kit: If you are not opposed, and are willing to put in a little time, just buy the 4* kit from Sig (available now), or the Venture 60 when it is finally available (my choice). Building this type of kit is very straight forward and you get a tremendous sense of satisfaction when its finished...not to mention all the things you will learn.
I do feel like there is one more plane that wasn't mentioned that falls into this category, but I can't think of it.
If you are set on an ARF, you can't go wrong with the Pulse. Yes, its a little more than the Escapade, but I feel like the build quality is a tad better. I have flown both, in the 60 size, and I like the way the Pulse flies over the Escapade...but that's just personal preference.

I know some seriously good pilots that have a soft spot for the tiger 2.
