I'm actually on the Kansas side.
I fly down in Shawnee Mission off 87th St. at the Shawnee Mission Park.
Just moved to KC a month ago, so I have no clue where Hodge park is

If you ever want to come see me, or just fly with a GREAT group of guys, come out to Stamm field at Longivew Lake.

I live in overland park. In late sept I'll be moving back to GA. I just finished a pt 40. I haven't joined any club here yet since I'll be moving in a month but would like to get off the ground before then.

pixelator, when do you usually get out there to fly? I am about 15 minutes from Shawnee Mission...I think it's a terrible flying field, but do fly there every now and then.
allen, there is training every Tuesday and Thursday out at the Longview Lake flying field. There are a lot of guys who can help, including me. We got buddy boxes (I've got a Futaba) and all kinds of good stuff over there.
All you need is AMA and a park permit...You do not have to join the club. If you want to, it's only $15.

Yes I am definitely interested. Is the park permit you spoke of the same as the Jackson Co. flying permit I saw on the Stamn field site? Can you provide directions from OP?

I'd head out to Longview, but that's an awful long drive for me. I'm out of Gardner, so even the Shawnee Mission field is 20 mins or so.
As for the field, yeah, I've flown better... it's not so bad though, if you can get around the trees everywhere.
I usually try to fly either Saturday or Sunday morning. With it being so hot lately, I get out there about 9am and fly for a couple hours.

I belong to both the Shawnee Club and the KCRC Club that flies at Flemming field, (Lake Jacomo). Shawnee has more trees that are a lot closer and the wind is usally at 90 degrees to the runway. But it's 10 minutes from home and the people flying there are hearty souls generally with friendly smiles and always willing to help. The Fleming field location is much larger with a paved runway and plenty of friendly people who usually fly larger aircraft. I have flown at all the fields in Kansas City area and have only run into one non-helpful unfriendly person. Of course he wasn't flying he was just watching and giving free advise.
So if you are at either of these two fields and see a big bald guy come over and say hello - I''ll be glad to help or talk or point you to someone who will.
