What way up to mount a DLE 20 RA
My hanger 9 Sbach has arrived as has my DLE 20 RA
have not got to setting this bit up yet but :---
What i am wondering is should the engine go upside down or on its side:
has anyone actually fitted one & what are the pros & cons of the 2 ways ( if indeed there are 2 ways)
If the answer is on its side would it be at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position when viewed from the front ( to make throttle connection easiest)
Do the mounting holes need a lot of adjustment & if none line up with those already fitted then how do i decide on the correct location?
Presumably the centre of the engine prop shaft has to match centre line of the cowl. But what is best way to establish that? is there a simple way?

I understand now. If the engine came with a pitts muffler that directs the exhaust in the same direction as the head, the whole point is to mount it inverted. As for position, the orientation shouldn't change as the mounting bolts will be center with the crankshaft.

Im not sure the ACTUAL model Sbach your referring to, but can say this, Ive put together many, many planes, and never one that wasnt inverted. Realisticaly, it makes no difference what orientation the engine gets mounted. It will run the same any way. It more or less comes down to which way will require the least amount of work. Youll almost certainly have to cut the cowl on the bottom for the cylinder head and plug cap. Thats pretty standard. Hope this helps.

Like has been said single cylinder gas upside down. Both twin cylinders that I have are opposed so those lay on their side.
It makes no difference to the operation.
For looks then it's upside down
