Default Aerobat tail dragger conversion

My Midwest Aerobat is supposed to be tail-dragger ready. It is on one respect, there is a main gear mounting block under that covering. That's fine. But, in the rear, that's another issue.

The rudder on this plane stops at the top of the fuselage (as others go all the way down the back to the bottom of the fuse and the elevator is slotted to accomodate this). The horizontal stab is on the BOTTOM of the fuselage and goes all the way to the rear of the fuselage. I made a little drawing to demonstrate what I am talking about. See below.

My delimma is the Sullivan tail wheel assembly attaches itself to the rudder as do many others. I don't know how to do a conversion back there without a major reconstruction.

HELP!!

Take a look at the sketch.

It will show you how to hook it up depending on whether your rudder hangs over the end of the fuselage or is flush with the end.

I use a Dubro tail wheel system on mine and it just swivels freely, no hooking of anything. It takes a bit more practice to learn to taxi this way but works great. A lot of wind will give you some problems but it can be worked around. If you look at Campy's drawing -- it would be the same except that there would be another wheel coller on top of the mount to let the wheel assembly swivel. Trim the excess wire off above the top coller. ENJOY!!!!! Red

All three suggestions are great and good food for thought. I will probably go with one of them, but not until I absolutely have to go over to the conversion. So far, the shorter/stiffer nosewheel wire is working out. I already have two other planes with tail dragger setup, Goldberg Wildstick 40 and a Four Star 40. Both are steerable via the rudder control, no "free-wheeling" so far.

Ok.. thanks for the help, Guys.

Dick.
