Tukkus, the YS would be an extreme overkill even if you can get it in the cowl properly but I would like to see it [X(]
txaggie it is in my oppinion the best first war bird I've heard of. I've let a few people with war bird experience fly it and they loved it, it's not as fast as most war birds and I've been able to climb out of some mistakes on windy days. I did the same with a P-51 and...well, lets just say it is out of service for a while.

Just got my Ju 87 Saturday and started assembling it this morning. I've read through this thread and took note of the improvements that I'll be incorporating into my plane, glassing the firewall, etc. One of the first things I noticed was the landing gear has no give. Has anyone tried putting some sort of shock absorbing strut on the Stuka? I've got a set that has been laying around my shop for awhile that I may try to use. I'll be using a Magnum .91 engine on mine and moving the mounting bolts so as to avoid cutting into the cowl. I also think I'll paint the front half of the cowl and the rudder yellow. I went looking for some Armor Coat Holland Yellow today and couldn't find any anywhere in town. I may have to take my wing to Home Depot and have them color match the yellow. Any advice would be appericated.

Found out that Holland Yellow and New Holland Yellow, the tractor paint, are pretty much the same. I picked up a can at Tractor Supply. The problem is, mine is niether. When I got home I could tell right away that they were not even close. Turns out the yellow on mine is a dead on match to cub yellow.

I can see why Great Planes discontinued this plane. It's obvious that their supplier in china had quality control issues. I have found a number of issues from the paint line and color on the cowl not matching up to the fuselage to themost recent, the control rod guide tubes not being in the proper position to line up with the servos and exiting the fuselage to close to the control surfaces. They will all three have to be removed and repositioned. At least they are only glued at the exit point and nowhere else inside the fuse.
I would love to see Great Planes bring this plane back but if they did, I would hope they would use a different supplier.

I guess this thread is pretty much dead. Appearntly no one likes the GP Ju 87 Stuka. I like mine. I did the maiden flight this weekend and I found it to be a very stable warbird. Contrary to what many of the members of my club had told me. One member told me if I really wanted a Stuka I should buy a plastic model because it would last longer.
Here are a few pictures of my very sucessfull maiden flight.
I think I'll keep it, now for some scale details.

Great job on the Stuka ! It is on my list of birds I need to add to the hanger. Getting difficult to find though, since it's been discontinued. Good to hear the maiden went well. How was she on take offs and landings, any bad tendencies?
Make sure to post pic's of the scale details.

They are getting hard to find, though every once in awhile they do come up for sale. And parts are almost impossible to find. My first take off was about 40' and it kind of "popped' up into the air unexpectedly. The first landing was a dream, wings perfectly level almost all the way to the ground. The second take off after being trimmed was perfect. I used about 200' of the runway and it lifted off very gently for a very flat climbout. I've used the flaps for every landing and all have been un-eventfull. There are no trim changes for flaps at any setting, it just slows down. I've heard that stalls were hard and fast but that has not been the case for me. It just gets kind of mushy and drops a wingtip. You give it some down elevator and it starts flying again. I've got a Hangar 9 Spitfire that flys really nice and the Stuka flys very much like it.
Of the 3 warbirds I have, TF P-51, H9 Spitfire and GP Stuka, the Stuka is my favorite.

Sounds like its a good flyer overall. Did you do the landing gear mod (bend them a bit forward) to prevent tip overs or just kept it stock?
The Stuka has always been one of my favorites.

I had read somewhere that GP made a correction to the landing gear to fix the nose over problem. I believe mine was one that had been fixed as mine had a slight forward rake to the struts already so I left them as they were. I have had 2 noseovers when the plane slowed after a landing and rolled out onto the grass, (we have a paved runway). I have the dual rates set up so when I land if I keep full up elevator as I taxi it does not nose over. I look forward to getting more practice this week if the weather cooperates.

Ju87 Stuka update.
Ok, so I've been flying the Stuka for 1 year now. I still love it, it's one of my favorite planes. Of my warbirds, it is my favorite. I've had some issues with the landing gear. Not so much with nose-over problems but with the fact that all landing forces are transmitted directly to the wing. One hard landing where I stalled about 18" off the runway and the wing cracked and the landing gear on the left side was ripped out. Fixed that. The next time about 6 weeks later I did it again this time breaking the wing in half. I decided not to rebuild the wing but rather find a replacement. Took about 2 months to find another Stuka.
I saw that the wing structure is very weak in the area around the landing gear so this time around I decided to do something different. I ordered some struts from hobby king and fabricated some mounts for them. What do you think of my solution?
