exhaust deflectors are made by a few companies . you can make your own from aerotrend very large surgical tubing & even copper tubing. none will keep fuel resdue off your plane completely, nore should it. keep the tube SHORT . lengthening it you are asking for trouble especially in hot weather .the added back pressure affects the engine temperature considerably.the best method for reducing the gunk is to side mount the motor & use a PITTS STYLE muffler. it deflects most of the exhaust away.

I use one on every plane I have you have to make sure the zip ties are tight or they will fall off after a couple of runs they are great for keeping the fuel away. your still going to clean some residue up of course its worth the couple of bucks they cost

Be advised that the exhaust deflectors WILL rob a couple of hundred rpm from the engine.

That said, the best way to keep the deflector on the muffler is to take a dremel (or small triangle file ) and cut 2 grooves on the exhaust nipple of the muffler. That way when you clamp the exhaust extension on and tighten the tie wraps, it will force part of the extension into the grooves and greatly reduce/eliminate the extension coming off.
