I have been wanting a four stroke for a while, and I would like to eventually buy a saito 125a and mount it in a 3D Mayhem. I was just wondering how saitos do inverted and what kinds of things I would have to know. This would be my first 4 stroke, do you think mounting my first one inverted would be too much? Also suggestions on any additional field equipment that might be handy would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Not a problem.
Just make a loop in the fuel line that goes above the spray-bar and your saito will do the rest. I was worried about it too, but it's no different than mounting upright for the most part. It will start/run/tune just like it was mounted upright. There is no real difference...just make the loop to keep fuel from flooding the engine and you will be fine.
Enjoy that engine!!

I ran a Saito 120s Gold Knight inverted in a Funtana 90 with no problems at all. One field equipment suggestion would be to have a good starter with enough power to turn a four stroke that size. I use the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFT88&P=0]Sullivan Dynatron[/link] and it does pretty good at 12 volts on my 120 and it handles 24 volts if needed. 24 volts turns the 120 with great ease. Also, if you mount your fuel tank far from the engine, a [link=http://www.perrypumps.com/prod02.htm]Perry 4 stroke pump[/link] works great to bring the fuel supply back to adequate pressure.

Saito engines run great inverted. I did not intentionally add any "loops" in the fuel line or anything. Don't really even need a starter. Chicken stick against compression fires up nearly everytime on first try.

remote-glow = GOOD
missing fingers = BAD!!
I agree that a starter is not needed if you have it tuned right and remote glow is a necessity. Looking under a running prop either on the ground or on a table, from behind or from the side is just too risky for me...I'm careful that way.

electric starters= easy
and one thing not mentioned about inverted saitos is that they get plenty of oil to the rockers that otherwise dont!!
and they do run great inverted[8D]

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed to know. But I don't quite understand the loop thing about the fuel line. What section of fuel line do I put the loop in? I'm not sure what a spray bar is.

the spray bar is the little thingy in the carb where the fuel is released in the quanity that you set with the needle and is mixed with the air
and ill let the loop be explained by the loop guy, i never needed a loop

Loop guy here...
The loop just provides an air gap preventing a siphon if the carb is below the spray-bar. It is useful if you leave the plane with the tank full for a few minutes to prevent the engine from flooding and the fuel from being siphoned out. Just make sure the fuel line runs above the spray-bar and the carb somewhere between the two. It usually is not necessary to do it intentionally since most installations will have enough slope in the line to keep fuel from running....'down-hill'.
Other loops include hula, fruit, loopty and those big ***** earrings the bad girls wore in college...um so I heard.
Good Luck!!
OOPS did'nt mean to confuse you...loop goes between tank and carb, not spray-bar and carb...I had my definitions wrong, apparently....always thought the spray-bar was the tank outlet.

I have the 90 sized 3D Mayhem with the Saito 125a and the engine is mounted inverted. No trouble whatsoever. The start is effortless and idle is superb. I do use a remote glow starter, but that is it. No fuel loop or anything was needed on mine.
