Default n00bie who wants a plane

Hi every one,
I am the CEO of MeltedPixel web design and just finished a couple of sites.
I was browsing the forums and saw this video of some planes flying.
so i naturaly want to buy a plane.
I have some past experience with planes.
A friend has one and let me fly it around.
I need to know what you guys would suggest.

Since i have some expereince and want something that flys well and i will not have to buy a new one in a couple months i have been looking at this:
http://www.rctoys.com/b2stealth.php

It looks like a great value to me.
I realy like the Steath planes so that is a perk.
Tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions i would be more then happy to hear them. :stupid:
Thanks!

my advice to you is talk to your friend who has the plane.he will tell you it is not that simple. it takes some time and patients to learn how to fly a rc plane. try and locate a club in your area,as most people in the club are usually more than willing to help and could point you in a good direction and selection of a trainer aircraft. good luck! I hope you get involved in a great and rewarding hobby.

Thanks!
I will look around for a club.
I just downloaded a free simulator.
After around 5 runs, i got it to take off, go in a figure 8, and then land.
All with a non-self correcting plane and the humans point of view.
Im kinda proud

I agree with Kruges, but if you want to learn the hard way, buy what ever then after the crash, join a club, get an instructor, build a trainer, learn to fly then progress to a more complicated plane.Good luck which everway you go.

I flew the viper twin just last weekend . it is a nice flying plane but it is not a beginners plane... launching is a bit tricky till you get used to it.

take a look at zagi.com
if you want a nice flying electric go for the zagi 400. its also not a "toy" that the other flyers at the field will laugh at.

also
http://www.windrider.com.hk/profile/profile.html have a flying wing that looks to be decent. I will probably have a chance to try one of them out soon as I know someone that just got one.

but again.. talk to your friend and get some instructions on flying RC... when you have soloed you can start getting into the more "non traditional" designs like the flying wings and such but they might be a bit difficult to learn on.

Are you stuck on a flying wing?

Another option, Zagi also has the Fixx.
It is slower then the 400's so would be easer to fly.

IMO the zagi 400 is not a beginner plane. It is fast and will stall easily, but it is tough.

Find a club or someone who can teach you how to fly and go find a good trainer to start with. No P-51's or anything fancy. A Hobbico Avistar is just one of many good planes to start with.

thanks guys!
My friend has the PAF, and i can fly it and land it.
Just tried it out today.
He is a newbie also (just got his plane a week ago)
I also downloaded this free simulator which i think i am addicted to now.

I also want to get a plane were everything is included so i dont have to go shopping for stuff and install everything.
Thats what i like about the PAF.
The Zagi also looks good, so i will look into that
Thanks again!

Here is a link to a good plane. They also sell it in a combo that you can get everything. If you want to spend $289 on something like the PAF you linked to, then you will find that you will fly it a few times and throw it away. If you have that much money, throw some my way. The foam plane you are looking at is a huge rip off. It comes with a radio pictured below that sells for $89 that is worth about half that. That means you are paying $200 for a piece of foam, an electric motor, and a battery and charger. Not too good. If you get one like in the link, you will spend about $400 realisticly, but you can fly it for a long time and use the radio and engine in more models. Think about it. Throw away $300 or get something you can learn on and stick with and it will have value if you decide you don't like it later and want to sell it. The PAF will be garbage in no time flat.

Default Flying wings for a newbie

Flying wings for a newbie is a poor idea. One of the more difficult tasks to be learned is aircraft orientation in all attitudes and flying wings makes this very difficult, many accomplished pilots have problems with all wing aircraft.

If you really want to succeed in the sport then you would consider some of the posts above and start with a conventional trainer either a small electric or a larger glow ship.

Some of the things you mentioned you want to avoid are an unavoidable conclusion if you don,t get help and an appropriate airplane.

MeltedPixel

Go with an Hobbico Avistar. It was my first plane. I flies like a dream. It only took a few days to complete the ARF. We installed to engine and charged the plane. The next day, we ran 2 tanks of fuel throught it, then we took off. She flew so nicely the instructor even compelminted on the way she flew. The Avistar is really easy to takeoff, fly, and land. It would be a great starting plane.

Ps. I you can, get the Great Planes G2 Sim. IT HELPS A LOT!!!!!

Happy flyin'!!

I also just downloaded a free remote controlled airplane sim.
On my 5th try i got it to take off, go around in a circle, do a figure 8, then do a flip, and land in the center of the run way.

MeltedPixel, you don't seem to be willing to accept the advice that has been given to you. These people are spending their time and effort to try to help you yet you keep coming up with other models that you would prefer to have. None of the ones that you have mentioned are for a beginner, even one who has practiced with a simulator. Take a minute to look at the advice and give it some serious consideration.

Default Get the Avistar

My honest opinion would be to tell you to get the Avistar. It comes prebuilt, with an engine, and a radio. Everything you need. You only need to purchase a 12 volt battery to run your starter(for your engine) and fuel.

You do not use fuel at the gas station. Buy 10% nitro fuel, with castor oil. You can get this at any local hobby store. Tell them you want 10% nitro fuel for an airplane engine. They will give you what you need.

Then go to your club and ask someone there to help you with the setup and the prosedures for starting the engine and taxiing. The people at your local hobby store and/or your club will help you make sure you don't endanger someone else or yourself and you can learn to fly and have lots of fun after you learn. The Avistar is what I learned on and it is a fantastic plane. Go to Tower Hobbies.com and go to the RTF section and order the avistar. It will be completely built for you. All you need is something to start it with and the fuel, and you'll be ready in hours. Make sure you charge the batteries first. Have fun.
