Default flight simulator

I'm looking for something better than what i bought. I bought a simulator off e-bay,$39.00. Installed the program, there are 3 planes to pick from. the controls just don't seem that good. I understand you get what you pay for.So I would like to know what are some good simulators out there,or does anyone have something better to sale than what I have. THANK YOU, pub

My RealFlight simulator from Great Planes is fantastic. Make sure your computer can handle it. RealFlight will help you figure it out. I use G3.0. There is a newer one named 3.5. The newest one is now available. Named 4.0. I believe it needs a lot more power than my laptop has.

If you'd like more discussion about the relative merits of R/C FLIGHT SIMULATORS, you might swing over to the RCU forum that is called R/C FLIGHT SIMULATOR SOFTWARE.

I think FMS is free..lol
You're buying that TX thing of ma loo..i guess it feels like a toy.
I don't know..have you tried clicking off the FIX camera ?
This way the model don't stay at the center of the screen..and it feels like a vedio game.
I guess that cd comes loaded with models..which saved you time from having
load them off the net.lol

You can dowm load smart pro and use you're own TX, The one you're going
to be using to fly your real model with. Just a resistor and plug it into the head phone jack.
and use that with whatever software you choose.

I think that would be your best bet if you wish for it to FEEL right.

None of my models in real life feels the same. They all have different set up and charector
so I don't really know what feels right for who. i hate flying others modle's. Other
hate flying mine becuase they look at me cross eyes and tell me my TX set up feels
funkie to them.

hey SEB23, i have the ESKY simulator and i think it's awesome. it may not have as many aircraft to fly, but, it teaches you how to fly just as well as the more expensive sims. i practiced on it roughly 5-to 10 hours before i flew a real aircraft and it helped alot. i think the main thing a simulator helps with is the rudder and elevator control.

Basically that's FMS repackaged with the USB controller. You can buy this package for as low as $19.00.

FMS may be good to teach rudimentary orientation, but it's flight model is not up to the fidelity of most of the better ( more expensive ) sims.

The better the flight model, the quicker the student will pick up the "muscle memory" needed to fly the real RC planes.

Also a better fidelity flight model lets you attempt those stunts on the sim at first, that you can later undertake on the field.

all i know is, i trained with the t-34 aircraft using the ESKY sim. my first flight with a real 6 channel ultra- stick resulted in loops, inverts, snap rolls, and barrel rolls with no crashes. for the money, you cant beat it.

Yes. The ESKY "Sim" is FMS which is free.

You are only paying for the controller.

That's the thing with E-bay - not everything will be like the seller described, the right price, or the in best condition. RealFlight G3.5 or the new G4 would be good simulators. I'm borrowing the G3.5 from a guy in my club and it is amazing. It has great graphics and lots of different helis, planes, gliders, and flying sites. Although that new G4 sounds pretty awesome - I'm hoping to get the G4 as a x-mas present.

I have RF G3 and upgraded to G3.5 and I love it. I have flown the hangar 9 version and it does not seem like RC planes to me, G3 to me flys more like real life RC planes. Hangar 9 does have a whole lot better graphics and yes you will need to upgraded your computer too. If you bought one I would get FS1 by hangar 9 or RF g3 or g4.

Keep in mind that the sims give you perfectly trimmed models and absolutely still flying conditions. You have to click in some turbulence and wind to have anything approaching the conditions you almost always fly in. And I've yet to see any model the average flyer shows up with to be perfectly trimmed.

The beauty of the sims is that a beginner does have the opportunity to fly a perfectly trimmed trainer in perfect conditions to begin with. And after he gets a bit of experience, he can dial in some "realism" with the weather settings. None of this is possible at the field.

Only problem with that, is that most sim detractors never thought of it before blazing away at how unrealistic they think sims are. No real surprise the sim models don't fly like theirs.

If your computer can't handle the minimum requirements of G3.5 or FS-One you can get Real Flight G2 used on Ebay for about $100 and it is a great sim. I went with G2 so I can use it on my laptop, the graphics and physics are good and light years better that FMS.

Hi everyone,

I just got the RC bug again (bad case) after almost 20 years since I last flew. I just ordered a T-hawk airplane and an Eshy HoneyBee King II helicopter. The radio for the HoneyBee comes with a USB cable and sim software. Do you know if I can also use this as an airplane sim?

Thanks

You may be able to get it to work with FMS which is a free sim. You can download it here and give it a try:

If it appears as a standard Windows controller it will be trivial to set up with FMS.

I believe it does.

Thanks Missileman and OpJose, I will try to use the Esky sim set up to fly planes as well and I will post whether it worked out. Thanks again.

Cheers

I had the same problem and the cure is found in the "controller tab" at the top of your screen. For some reason it starts up sometimes with the transmitter selected. You need to choose the joystick controller and it works just fine.

I have the G3.5 and its a fine tool for keeping up on the skills durring the non flying months, as well as working on those little things that are giving you trouble in real life flying, the nice thing as well has been the extra planes off the RFlight site.
I have downloaded at least 75 planes,or aircraft variants, that are not included in any of the software in the sim some of the designers do a great job with replicating the actual planes.
a sim is no substitute for real world practice, but I was really surprised how much better my flying skills had gotten by spending some time in front of the screen, mostly T.O. and landing, and crash recovery developing the instincts to rapidly adjust to bad situations and prevent, pile of sticks syndrome,as of late I have been doing more building than flying so the sim has helped keep the edge that leaves over time the price on G3.5 has gone down a bit and works well for my needs I see no need to uprgrade for another 200$ for a couple of lakes, bottom line is get the best you can afford,as long as you use it constructivly as a simulator not as a game console theres alot to be learned from a sim, thats why I have Playstation for playing games.

The RealFlight G3.5 is on sale here in Toledo OH. @ Riders Hobby Shop for $169.00 and it includes the Add-ons Volume 5.
Is anyone familar with the plane named "Bulldog" on the 3.5 sim? It is a mono wing plane that really flies awesome. I have looked to try & find one with no luck. Does this plane exist as an RC? If so I would love to buy or build one if avaliable.
Thanks for any input.
