Default Seagull Edge 540 muffler

Hello all,

I was looking at purchasing this plane.

[link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SEA3100]Edge 540[/link]

In this picture I notice a muffler extension coming out of the bottom

[link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Gallery.aspx?ProdID=SEA3100&Index=6]Picture[/link]

Where can I get this extension?

Does it come with the plane?

If not where can I get it or do I have to make one?

Thanks

I don't know if this is whats used hard to tell in the pics but it looks like an Exhaust Deflector

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...?ProdID=DUB697

If i had to guess it doesn't come with eh plane if you can download the manual you can check the parts list to be sure ...

Its just a plane old Hobbico Exhaust Deflector order number LXL378 at Toer Hobbies. You could also use a side mount Pitts style muffler that is designed for the peticular engine you are going to use. I looks alot nicer and less hacking up on yjr cowel.
I used a CB Pitts style muffler with my OS 90 FX and it worked fine for me.

Here's my engine choice.

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFMD5&P=ML]Engine[/link]

What pitts muffler will fit on it?

I haven't seen any for AX engines

Thanks

You are going in two different directions in this thread.
The original question about the muffler extension on what appears, from the picture, to be a stock muffler.
If you put a pitts muffler on it, which may or may not fit in the cowl on that airplane, the exaust will come out of the bottom of the cowl differently than in the picture.

yes I understand, but then he gave me the idea of just spending a little extra money and saving alot of looks by putting a pitts on it

Be aware that there are different size and shape pitts style mufflers.
The hard part is figuring out exactly which one you need to fit inside the cowl.

You sure you want to put the smallest recommended engine on that hot rod? You may really wish you had some more power after you get used to the airplane..

As linked in the Tower catalog at the bottom are the recommended pitts style mufflers, I've had very good luck with slimline, they fit in almost any tight situation, I would image in the situation as well. I smashed a plane with a slimline on it and it twisted slightly, I couldn't believe the cats aluminum didn't snap. good stuff.

Hi CJ,
Its a great little plane very lite but that engine is not enough trust me, I have a saito .72 with a 13 by 6 prop great. Made my own muffler extension out of copper tubing and it was no problem at all.it came in at the lower end of the recomended weight, here are a few pics.

How do you think a Magnum .52 4-stroke will run this plane.

or will a bigger 2-stroke do ok.

I'm really stretched with money at this point and I don't know what's quality and what's not

Thanks

Magnum 52 4 stroke is weaker than the 46 2 stroke you mentioned earlier, it is closer to a 40 2 stroke.
Now the Magnum 52 2 stroke is a step in the right direction.

By the time you spend an extra $35 for a pitts style muffler you might as well suck it up and get the 70 4 stroke. (4 stroke stock mufflers fit right inside the cowl, no need for a pitts)

If money is so tight then you may want to consider less airplane. Sorry but the truth is this is an expensive hobby.

Putting mine together now with a Saito .72 and looking at Jasons pictures I never thought of turning the carb around. I was going to put a needle extension to the bottom but on my Seagull Ultimate with a 125 it's right next to the muffler. HOT!!

As for the extension there are some aluminum ones out there that don't flex and eat up the cowl. I think I got mine from Tower.

I used an Irvine 60 ABC-ring and I thought that it was only adequate power.
I side-mounted the engine to use a BCM (Bisson Custom Mufflers) Pitts.
It looked great but wasn't very effective as a silencer!
A 50 would be too small is my guess.

If it were me,and I could see me getting this plane.....I'd put a .90 on it. Sounds crazy,but its not. I have a 60" sukhoi that I've had 2 different .90's on it and its a great combo. I had a .61 evolution on it at first and it sucked. It would barely leave the ground on hot,humid days unless you ran it so lean it wanted to stall out alot. And I'm thinking your plane isnt much different size wise.

I also have the seagull .60 edge 540(68" span)with a saito 1.25 4-stroke in that also a great match if that gives you an idea. I would not even consider putting a .46 in it.

I guess a good .75 would be ok too if you arent into alot of 3d.
