Default Dumb newbie question

Hello all, I just purchased a Hanger 9 Alpha Trainer as my first R/C plane. I currently own and fly an Ultralight Aircraft (mini-max 1100r) so I understand the physics of flight. Hopefully tomorrow one of my friends (experienced r/c guy) and I will take my plane up for it's virgin flight, with him at the controls. My question for you experienced guys/gals is what do you use to clean off the messy/oily byproducts that end up on the side of the plane from the 2-stroke exhaust?? After running my engine on the ground for about 15 minutes today, I was amazed at the amount of residue left by the engine. I just used some kitchen degreaser stuff laying around the house, but what are your recommendations for cleaning up your plane to keep it as nice as possible?? Let me know. Thanks.

I just use what ever I cn sneak out with out my wife catching me with, such as windex, alcohol, fingernail polish, and various bathroom and kitchen cleaners.

You will find all kinds of opinions on this,so just use what works for you.

Here it is.

I have used 409, windex, windex with rubbing alcohol in it, windshield washer fluid and a mix of all of the above.

Good Luck with your flight.

Use that "Orange Clean" foam. It works better than anything I have ever seen. But a mixture of alcohol and dishwashing detergent also works well and it is a lot cheaper. Happy flying and cleaning!

For convenience, it is hard to beat baby wipes. Come in a nice plastic box, are reasonable in cost at any "super store" and leave a nice, fresh smell on the plane.

Really, they cut through and remove oil like water going into a sponge.

You can buy exaust deflectors (or make your own) the simply deflect the exaust away from the fuse and wing of your plane. I have yet to buy one but i cant see why they wouldn't work well.

Again thanks for the tips....I flew her today (with my rc friend first at the controls). She flew great with no problems and just a little trim needed on the elevator. I only had to hand over the set once to my friend to get me out of trouble, so I guess I didn't do too bad. There were a number of other rc guys at the old airstrip, and they were helpful, friendly and also flew the first flight for me (as my friend was a little rusty) he took over second than after a while gave me the controls.....PaPa-NeGeorgeo, thanks for the tip. One trick my friend told me was that I could loosen the exhaust and rotate the angled output to push down and away from the wing/fuselage. I did it when I got home, so I'll see if it worked.

No problem,
Congrats on your maiden seems you very well for your first flght. Go as much as possible. If your using an OS engine take strong pliers and a phillips screwdriver loosen it with no more then two turns and just flip it to where you want it to go.
By the way welcome to the hobby,

Papa

Thet somtimes work, buyt i have noticed that they fall of, even when attached, more than any thing, if you run a tuned pipe, than you dont have to worry so much since the pipe runs all the way down the plane ,lol.
I use orange cleaner or baby wipes.

The only problem with exhaust deflectors is I have yet to keep one on my plane for any length of time, and I have tried just about every suggestion known to man, My final solution was Windex in the gallon refill size
