Hey guys I just ordered a Typhoon 2 3D and I will be putting in a Spektrum AR6200 receiver for use with my DX6i transmitter. I have never had to setup dual rates on this transmitter before and I had a few questions for those of you who may have experience with this.
Ok so I know how to access the dual rate settings in the DX6i and I understand what they do. My question is how to properly setup the dual rates to acquire the throw that I need for this plane?
I would assume that I will adjust my high rate setting so that at 100% servo travel I will be reaching the correct throws for high rate. Now how do I know what percentage to adjust to in the dual rate mode to adjust for low rate throws? Also wil I need to adjust the exponential for the low rate setting?
If anyone is using this radio with the typhoon 2 and can let me know what settings your using for your dual rates and expo that would be great.
Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Your settings for dual rates are kind of a matter of personal preference. You might set your low rates to 70% or so and then adjust them up or down based on your flying experience.

That makes sense. I'll just back the percentage off a bit on low rate until I get good at flying it. Then I'm sure I'll be wanting to fly it in high rate all the time. I've been flying my Superstar .40 glow plane quite a bit and have gotten good at that, inverted flight, loops rolls etc... The manufacturer gives you preset high and low rate throws for the flaps and thats what I was basing this off of. Like you said though, I'm sure its all just a matter of preference. I'll give 70% a shot when I get it. Thanks!

It really depends on your planes total throw but I was told in general use 35-40 for low and double the high. This may be different for stunt or speed planes. But to start I used 35 for low on my minnow and 75 for high. The low was to low and sluggish to respond. I upped it to 50 and left the high at 75. It flies pretty good at that rate.

Well, from what I understand lowering the percentage also lowers the sticks sensitivity around the neutral position (this is where the exponential adjustment comes in to play). By using + or - expo (which ranges from: -100% to +100%) you can adjust the sticks sensitivity around neutral, increasing sensitivity by adding - expo, decreasing sensitivity by adding + expo.
Again this is how I understood it reading the DX6i manual. So, I would assume by running a % of 75 at high rate you would be losing stick sensitivity around neutral position unless you also were using some - expo.
Because of this I plan on adjusting my servo travel length to get the desired high rate throws. This way I can leave the rates at 100% in high rate mode, and use something like 60 or 70 and -expo for low rate. Does this make sense? Am I correct in understanding how expo works? Its the best way I can think of to do it right now. Unless anyone has any other ideas? Thanks

Im with ya. I dont quite get it either. Im pretty sure the D/R increases or decreases the throw of the surfaces from 0-100%. The expo increases or decreases stick sensitivity. I dont know which way that works though. I was just setting the dr and expo at same percentage for low and the same for high. ie; low dr 50% expo 50% high dr 75% expo 75%. I dont seem to get the expo.
