Default Phase 3 J3 Cub or the Hobbyzone Supercub?

I got the Phase 3 J3 Cub for a great price but not sure if its a good plane for a beginner. I want one that is easy to learn and durable and can keep me entertained for a while.
Is the Phase 3 J3 Cub a good RTF plane or should I be looking at the HZ Super Cub?

The Hobby Zone Cub is more sophisticated and cost more
http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_planes_parkzone_j-3_cub.htm

That doesn't mean that it would be any better for you than the Phase 3 from Hobby People.

Thanks for help. I was also checking out the ParkZone but it seems to be very similiar but the Phase 3 had a better remote and more channels. Do you think the HZ is a much more sophisticated than the Phase 3?
I was looking for one that I would not overgrow really quickly.

Also, are you familiar with the Supercub? Its been getting alot of good reviews but is it true that you have to plung another $200 into it to get it flying rite? Im on a budget so wanted to make sure I get the rite first plane. Thanks!

hi m8 i would strongly recommend the supercub, i own one and i had no experiance flying at all, whoever sed that u would need another $200 were so wrong, it works straight out of the box, attack the wing, rudder and charge the batery u are basiclly of, i had damaged the wing a little so i bought a new wing but that is all and that only cost £15 ( i dnt no what tht is in $) so dont listen to whoever said u need that much money to get it going because i had never needed to spend that much money on it at all

hope this helped

Neither plane of your selections has a radio that would be adaptable to any extent in your future model ventures.

The Hobby Zone looks a little more realistic but without actually flying them it would be hard for me to tell which one is better.

The Super Cub is a larger plane and would probably be better in the wind and would be my choice

"First" planes can have a limited lifespan, particularly if you are going it alone.

IMHO you are better off saving your money for your next plane instead.

You can get started with one of these more cheaply, which is a true 4ch plane...

[link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/128309.asp]Cessna 180[/link]

Or if you are a bit more adventureous one of these:

Which can be upgraded to ailerons with ease, alone with brushless, LiPo and clipped wings...

I was actually looking into the Cessna 180 first since it was so cheap but since the Phase 3 was bigger 46" wing span vrs 36" on the Cessna 180, I went with the Phase 3...and the Phase 3 cub also has a 4 channel radio.

Have you flown the Cessna 180? Is it any good? Cant beat the deal at $60.00

Hello, Thanks for all the advise on this forum. I went and returned the Phase 3 and purchased today the HZ Super Cub. It is so much bigger! Awesome. Im also practicing on the FMS simulator.

Can anyone give me some pointer on what to tweak or beef up on the HobbyZone Super Cab before my first flight?

The only mod that i made to my supercub was larger 2 3/4inch wheels to help prevent nose overs when landing. They cost all of 5 bucks. Otherwise, the supercub was my first real plane and has been great! You will find that it is very durable and easy to repair.

Also, try to wait for a calm day for your first flight because anything more than 3-5mph wind will make learning much more work than fun. Good Luck!
