Default WANTED: Warbird movie suggestions

Need some good warbird movie suggestions.

Just saw a decent one, Fly Boys, and got to thinking I'd like to see some more as I know nothing about warplanes.
The only other one I could recall seeing was Memphis Bell and it wasn't that good. A search brought the ones below:

Island in the Sky
Tora Tora Tora
Battle of Britian
I Wanted Wings
The War Lover

Can anyone tell me if they've seen any of these if they're any good, or suggest any others?

I have a Netflix account, a bunch of movies to rent, and I want to watch some good suggestions as next year I plan on getting a warbird ARF.

Also, any movies that feature Eric Hartman, the ace of all aces would be appreciated. Just got the Parkzone Messerschmitt BF109G airplane recently and would find that very interesting.

Thanks in advance.

There is a thread about suggested reading over int he warbird forum right now. Maybe some of those guys have good film suggestions too.

There is a lot of good stuff online. Even Youtube has some great old footage from all theaters of conflict and sides. The real events are often much more interesting than fiction.

TCM and AMC both play some great old movies with a lot of flying action now and then too. Saw a great one about Paul Tibetts and B-29/atom bomb program not too long ago on one of those networks.

Sure, CG, keep them coming. I just added the first three to my Netflix queue! The last one I could only find as a tv series. Thanks.

"Midway". That's a good one.

Howard Hughes did a movie in the early 30's called "Hell's Angels" about WW-1 RAF action. I've never seen it but I would like to.

Jimmie Stewart was in one called "Strategic Air Command" that has some amazing B-36 footage.

Midway, I think I saw, but can't remember but it's a freebee at Netflix to watch online so I'll check it out.

I added Hell's Angels. The last one, netflix doesn't have listed, maybe it wasn't made into a dvd???

"Showdown Air Combat" is a great TV show. I've watched it on Discovery HD Theater but I believe it is normally on the Military Channel? They did a great one on Pappy Boyington and the Corsair. He lived in my home town when I was a kid and I remember seeing him at an airshow or two. The guy had a pretty sad life after the war.

The show has also profiled the P-47/Dominic Gentile, P-51/Bud Andersen, Zero, P-38/Dick Bong and a few other aircraft & pilots. Maybe you can find the DVD's on Netflix or for sale at the Discovery Channel.

I've got Strategic Air Command (That's a Jimmy Stewart movie I think) on VHS.

Twelve O'Clock High is a classic. And, used by many companies as a motivation and leadership training film.

One of the best movies/mini series was "Piece of Cake" which was 6 episodes for a total of 312 minutes. It's the story of an RAF squadron at the beginning of the war when it was tough sledding for the Brits. Lots of Spitfires.

Battle of Britian, they even used some RC planes in it. The movie followed the facts pretty well too, a bit condenced but you can't put the complete book in a movie. Hells Angles also used full scale original planes. Howard did a pretty good job of it. TTT and NMid Way are pretty good movies, they used AT6 trainers done up to look like the real deals. Gobs of good movies out there and plenty of good books. I went to the Library and checked out the old movies. Free is good!!!!

How about Errol Flynn's Dive Bomber? Silly, but every time they go outside, the navy has a wonderful flyover with late '30's planes in glorious color.
