Strange Propeller numbers.
#1
I just got a wide variety of props from someone that quit the hobby. Two of them kind of stood out because of their numbers. They are Tornado props, aparently discontinued, but they read 22x3 and 24x3. I have never seen such large props with such a shallow pitch. I imagine a 20-26cc gasser could swing these on something like a 12 ft Telemaster and fly at a top speed of 25 MPH.
Either way I thought they were interesting and wanted to share. Also get any input our older fliers may have on these props. Most obviously I'm sure they miss the price of these. Look at the pictures; the price is printed on them.

They come from a time when the largest displacement RC engines tended to be .60's and there was a rash for a short time of geared engine mounts using a belt driven countershaft in an attempt to fly larger than normal airplanes.
Tornado props were made by the Grish Brothers and Grish still has a website up seems mostly small plastic props now.
Perfect airplanes for that was the large Tellys, Robinhoods and Lazy Ace's.
I have flown the eighty inch Lazy Ace biplane with an ungeared K&B .61 and it was a challange requireing very careful piloting the Countershaft engine mount would have been most welcome.

I think I recall using those Tornado props on my U-control planes?? Really been a while though but I do recall the name. I was just in my LHS and looking at some new Xoars for my gassers, they ran from about $25.00 to $30.00 for the 20 inch and 22 inch, things really have changed a lot!!
