Non-Steerable tail wheel on Ultra Stick 40??
OK, I epoxied my tail feathers on, and the vert support is not far enough forward to mount the tail wheel in the rudder. Its close, but not closed enough. I would have to trim too much off the elevator. I can still mount it by drilling a hole in the vert support, but it wont steer with the rudder. Can I just add a little caster to the tail wheel and hope for the best?? Plan B would be mount the front gear, and make it a tricycle.
Oh ya, I didnt epoxy the stock mounted tail wheel in the rudder because I bought a Dubro 60 set-up for it.
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated, Scoot

Couldn't you just mount one of these?
These are available from Tower for around $2.00 for the entire assembly, INCLUDING the aluminum tail wheel.
They are sold as a part for various planes and in various sizes.
The ones for 25-27% size planes will fit your .40 plane fine.
They can be installed after the fact, and only require drilling two holes to set up.
The picture best illustrates how they work.

I like the way opjose posted. I use the du-bro spring setup with my kit personally......
I'll honestly never epoxy another one into a rudder if I can avoid it. I HATE that fixed wheel mess....

Tail wheel broke off, along with everything else!! I got cocky, flew to low and fast for my flying ability. Plane rolled over in a turn, and drove it into the ground. Don't know if I should replace with another 40, or a 60.. Ive been flying a Hobbistar 60, and found the Ultra Stick 40 to be harder to see.
