Biplane for OS 65 LA

Not sure if this is the right spot for this, but here goes. I have moved on from my trainer (Hobbistar 60) and I am looking for a home for the electronics and the OS 65 LA it came with. Would love an Ultimate Biplane arf, but the only ones I am seeing are either 40 size or larger. Would the 65 be ok on a 40 size plane? I hear the la series are a bit less powerful, but they must be much heavier than a 40 or 46.
Any other options, or would that work with a 40 size bipe?
Thanks

Am I out of luck? Do I have to go either bigger or smaller? 40 size to 90 is pretty much all I can find in an arf

How about a SIG Sundancer 50?

a 65 la has about the same HP as a .46 ball bearing engine. it should work just fine in a .40 biplane

Is the 65 much heavier than a 46? If it'll work, that would be great.

Idont think it is terribly much heavier than a .46.

Good deal. I have been eyeballing a chinese arf on ebay for a while. But wanted to save money and get something I could use the 65 la for.
Thank you....

Any suggestions on prop sizes for this kind of setup. 40 size ultimate with an os 65 la? I was using 12x6 on the trainer, but I believe they would be too long...

A 12" prop should clear. I would give a APC 12x8 a try. I love that prop on my 65 LA. I had a 65 LA in a 40 size plane, I just mounted the battery in the very back (sq 4 cell), and it only needed 0.5oz on the tail.

Great news. Thank you.....Now to decide between the world models (150 bucks) or the chinese knockoff on ebay for about 80.

Thats choice A Lnewqban. The ultimate on ebay looks just like it and they also sell them at nitroplanes for around 119.
Do you have any experience with either?
Thanks again

No Shanet, no personal experience with either; but I have been a happy costumer (service and product quality) of A-M with previous airplanes (ARF) I've bought.

Just Shane. T is my last name :)
Thank you. I'll do some more research and check up on both.

Sorry........:(

I have a similar dilema with an old Super Tiger 60, which is too weak for a regular 60 plane.

Keep us posted, please.

I fly the Nitroplanes Ultimate .40 with an OS 65LA and an 11x6 prop. It is a pretty good combo.

12x6 is really far too much prop for this engine.

I know someone whos using a 65LA in his sig hog bipe. Pulls it very nice.

That is great to hear. Funny the RTF combo came with the 12x6 prop. I'll try an 11x6 and see how it goes. The nitroplanes site seems to be out of almost everything. But, now I know it'll be OK. Did you have to do anything drastic to get it to balance out with the 65 in it?
Thanks again

Thats the setupI had in my hog and it worked great. Plenty of power and fast. The Hog bipe is a great flyer if you can get one.

Wow, as a step up from a Hobbico trainer you're going to a 42 inch bipe with under 600 sq inches powered by a 65 LA? That's QUITE a step! Maybe you have the experience for it. How much have you flown? Not trying to be a sour puss, but most guys that I know just graduating from trainers would splatter that plane in about 5 seconds.

Sig, made an Ultimate Profile model, (not sure if its still available or not), that is lazer cut & easy to build & fly. I had an OS 52 four stroke on mine & it was alot of fun. The kit (if still available) builds fast & easy. I think your 65LA would work fine....Gene;)

That one has about 200 more square inches of wing.

Great Planes Escapade is a nice second plane. That 65 LAmight ba a bit large for one but you never kow. They have OS55AXs on them.

Thats a wittle bitty plane. A .46 AX would be overkill let alone a 55AX! Thats crazy!

RE: Biplane for OS 65 LA

And not a biplane.

Ideally you'd find something with around 8 or 900 square inches.
