Electric motors
I saw an RCU advertizement for HeliMax Pro electric motors and was wondering if anyone has used these motors on fixed wing electrics.

RE: Electric motors
Not sure.. looked like one with an armature with magnets on the case (not outrunner) but I'm not quite sure. I'll try to find it again and post the link.

RE: Electric motors
Internal fan. Nope. Not for fixed wings or cars. You know the drill! :) What kind of plane? |
RE: Electric motors
No particular plane in mind, Gary. I was just wondering if this sort of thing had the extra umph to weight ratio to be useful in some fixed-wing or other.
You know... folks are always asking for something new or innovative for use in an application.. and I thought this one, being advertized as being a powerful motor would do for a good powerplant on a fixed wing that may need a bit more power. CGr. |

CGr. Gotcha. But now days there are plenty of really high powered motors that equal that of glo or even gas engines with brushless and LiPo technology. It gets expensive with the bigger planes though. I'm an old RC car racer and the latest rage here is 1/8th scale electric offroad. Now, thats expensive! |
RE: Electric motors
Yeah, some of this stuff is not for the faint hearted!!!

RE: Electric motors
I don't fly glow or gas but have seen that, in the larger aircraft, say over 10 pounds, electric can get quite expensive. But under 10 pounds and certainly under 5 pounds, electric power can be quite reasonable or even cheap.
They all fly, so they are all good. |
