Big Stik 60
 

I am think about getting a Big Stik 60 and I would like to put a 90 size on it. If I can put the 90 what would be a good engine to purchase?

The Super Tigre is a great engine, I have a Big Stik .60 with a Super Tigre G .75 running a 13x6. This is overpowered. It will QUICKLY climb out of sight with this combo. I can not imagine the .90 size on this thing.

That being said the Stik is an amazing plane. SuperTigres are great engines Enjoy !!

X2 on the G-75, more than enough for that plane. But...... the G-90 is only $10 more and the same weight.

I'm using an OS95AX on my Big Stik 60. Yes, it's over powered, but it's also the most fun a person can have. You don't see stiks hovering too often :)

I put a ST 90 on my Big Stick 60. I wonder if it will require some ballast in the aft section? I have yet had time to finish it because of my work schedule but it doesn't need much.

more than likely will need weight in the tail. Even with a properly sized engine, the stik usually tends to come out a little nose heavy.

I agree .75 is just right for this plane.

I had a MVVS .77 in it and it flew perfect. I tried it with with the MVVS .91 (same casing size as the .77) but found it overpowered. I put the .77 back in.

The Super Tigre sounds like my speed. I have been flying trainers for 2 years and want toi step up a little. Eveyone says that this would be a good plane.

Put an extender on the battey pack and tuck it aft of the wings to get the C.G. right.

There's ample space for the pack back there, along with a small mount.

I am on my second Big Stick 60 and I love it (them). I am running an OS91FX and it pulls the plane around smartly although at one point I was having trouble with the 91 so I pulled it off and mounted an OS61FX and it seemed to pull it around faster. This is not only my opinion but that of several other guys at our field. Either size would work, the 91 is back on because I had another use for the 61.

Hi,
I have the Ultra Stick 60. I have had OS LA 65, OS 91FX and now a ST 75 on it.
The 75 is fine but I enjoyed the airplane equally as well with the 65 LA because the overall plane weight was lower.
It would fly backwards in a stiff breaze, low end or stall speed was SLOW. I have the flapped set, up it could be VERY slow when desired.

The UltraStik is a much ligher plane than the Big Stik.

Put an LA 60 on a Big Stik, and you can forget straight up verticals.

As a few people have mentioned, the Big Stik 60 tends to be nose heavy. One thing you can do is mount the engine closer to the firewall than specified in the instructions. Leave just enough room to route the fuel lines.

The most common .61 to .95 two strokes have the same size case and mounting bolt pattern, and the weights are usually similar. So, you can use a wide range of engines and a 90 size is at the top of the recommended range according to http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1220.html Engine Required: 2-stroke .60-.91 cu in or 4-stroke .91-1.20

My Big Stik .60 (Great planes) came out tail heavy. Can't imagine it being nose heavy!

I never overdid any glue or hardware, but if I remember correctly, the stick had solid 5/16ths balsa stabs and control surfaces...plus a looon tail moment. Throw in a stubby nose, which it's got, and you get tail heavy. Just like Four Stars.

I had a Saito .91 in mine...and a ton of lead under the fuel tank.

I had to add 9oz of lead in the tail to get the C.G. to come out anywhere close to what was indicated.

I ended up shoving a large battery pack as far aft as possible, to get rid of the extra lead.

The Saito .91 is a very light engine.

My GP Stik was converted to tail dragger. It had the receiver battery mounted as far back as a "flat" pack will fit on the fuselage floor. With an OS91 four stroke it needed more than an ounce screwed to the bottom of the stabilizer.

hmmmmm .... i been toying with the notion of the 60 big stick ....dle-20 with servos mounted in rear. only thing i have to research yet would be prop clearance. it autta honk ???

Stock trike setup a 14 clears well, converted to taildragger with bigger wheels you could clear 16-17 easily if you even needed it.

Thanks for all the good info on the Stik in making my decision much easier. However, one more question. I have a Hobbico Select 60 that I was going to use the transmitter and radio receiver in the 60 Stik. But I would like to upgrade to a 2.4GHz setup. So what would be a good inexpensive transmitter radio receiver for my Stik?

Futaba 6EX would be nice.......it's inexpensive, but if you could save a bit longer, I go with the Futaba 8FG and you probably will never need another radio. Both are 2.4GHz radios. The Futaba 7C is also very nice ad about the same price as the 6EX about $279 for just the TX and RX at Tower

I just ordered one of these for $55 (1st link). I fly Secktrum and Futaba on my big planes, but for $55 you cant beat it for smaller beater planes. I have researched this controller A LOT, and everybody that flys with it LOVES them. Cheap and GOOD, what more would you want?? If that is to cheap, get a Aurora 9, it will be the last controller you will ever buy. Scoot
