Quite bummed right now :( Take a soccer ball, lob it softly from below until you git good at lobbing it... hope not much more gets damaged when it finally jars loose. |
RE: Plane in tree
If I could just save the motor, servos, and receiver I'd be happy. I was a Hobbico Hobbistar 60. I'll try the soccer ball. Not sure I can lob it that high as I can not reach it throwing rocks at it.....
And I really could have sworn I was no where near the tree.... Oh b@lls.... |

RE: Plane in tree
:) Now your talking. Sand bag shot would probably do it...I'll figure it out tomorrow. Supposed to rain tonight which stinks, but not much I can do now...

RE: Plane in tree
Fishing rod....large hooked lure that you do not mind losing. If you are not good at casting,,find a fishing friend.
Best bet, if the plane is on a soft limb...is to cast the lure OVER the branch....let the lure come all of the way down...and pull on both lines...shaking the branch until she falls down..then, remove the lure, and rewind the plain line back onto the reel. Please don't ask me how I know this. Rich |
RE: Plane in tree
Good plan..........I'll definitely try that tomorrow.
Thanks |
RE: Plane in tree
Same recommendation as <font size="2" color="#00265e">richg99</font> but omit the hooks and use a heavy sinker so the line will come down, then pull on both. We have big trees in Oregon and this is the standard system used at my field.

I almost hate to ask, but did you try an extension ladder?

RE: Plane in tree
Find a professional tree climber who does tree work. He should be able to get it down for you safely, and with minimal damage. You will have to pay him something, but considering the damage that you can cause by fishing it down, it will be worth it.

RE: Plane in tree
try one of these available from http://stores.slingshotsusa.com/StoreFront.bok
Works great and if you notice in one of the pics; there is a pop-up rest for shooting arrows. Saved my bacon a few times! <fieldset> <legend accesskey="I">Attachments</legend><table width="10" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td><a class="highslide" href="http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfiles/490951/Xu62438.jpg"> http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/t...51/Xu62438.jpg <font size="1">Click for fullsize</font></a></td> <td><a class="highslide" href="http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfiles/490951/Oj27445.jpg"> http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/t...51/Oj27445.jpg <font size="1">Click for fullsize</font></a></td> </tr> </tbody></table></fieldset> <span class="info"> </span> |
RE: Plane in tree
Wow. This sounds a lot like the saga of Charlie Brown always getting his kite stuck in the tree. Call Linus.
|
RE: Plane in tree
Too funny Charlie....That might damage the monokote a bit though......
And radius, that is just genius. Man some people come up with some cool ideas. I'll try again today with what I have and might see if I can find a tree climber. Not sure I'd start to look for one. Yellow pages maybe. I'll keep you posted.... |
RE: Plane in tree
I have used my pool vaccum pole. It adjust out to 35 feet, taped a large sponge to the end of it. It allowed me to jar the plane loose from the tree. Once the plane came free from the tree, I dropped the vaccum pole and was able to even catch the plane before it hit the ground. It was a perfect soft 3 point landing in the tree, so there was no damage to the plane. At work a friend of mine got a bipe stuck in a tree. Limbs were between the wings, he eventually got it down with tennis balls. He took and needle and threaded fishing line into the tennis balls, and just kept throwing them until the ball and the fishing line wrapped around the plane enough to allow him to dislodge the plane.

RE: Plane in tree
I wish I could throw anything as high as this plane is. I can throw rocks about 10 feet below it. She is waaaaay up there.

RE: Plane in tree
And it's been raining all night and morning......Ugh. Maybe the inside is staying dry as it is hanging upside down...

RE: Plane in tree
Get a chain saw and cut the entire tree down:D. You could probably sell the wood as fire wood and have enough to buy a new plane. Sounds like it is a runway hazard anyway:D
|
RE: Plane in tree
You can always use a bow and arrow with a rope or string tied to it. Maybe get over the top of the branch.
The best thing is to get a tree service guy with a boom truck the reaches that high and pay them what ever they want. How much could they want? What is the plane worth to you? I got a plane stuck in tree once. There wasn't anything but pieces left so that's how it came down. In pieces. Since then the tree mysteriously fell down. :D |
RE: Plane in tree
Wouldnt using a ladder or asking for help from a professional tree climber be easier that lobbing softballs, sand bags etc?:D
