Put your 2 index fingers under the ballance point and see how the plane ballances. If you need to add lead, set it down, put the lead in, do it again. See all the money you saved on some hokey ballance tool? Been doing it that way for over 27 years.

I use the Great Plane CG Machine!

Much better and easier to use than the two fingers!

Don't forget to balance from wing-tip to wing-tip as well. Most people(like myself in the past) focus on the CG and forget about balancing the wing's as this can have a major effect on how the plane performs as well.

I clamp two wooden dowels to the edge of my workbench and put a big X on the bottom/top of the wing where it's supposed to balance.

I like this better than the finger method cause it leaves me free to add weight and move it around etc.. while the plane shifts around.

If you try it remember to round off the top of the dowels first so that the plane will actually balance on it and not just sit on em.
