My Next Plane??
 

Ok, I've posted several questions on here in the past, and the answers have been extremely helpful, and I have gotten great advice, so here I am again. I am ready to move on to my first low-wing plane and was wanting some suggestions.
I currently have the Great PlanesPT40 that I built, and Alpha 40, and a Nexstar .46. I absolutely love all 3 of these planes, but I'm just getting the itch to upgrade to a low-wing. I also have the Trojan T-28d, but that is what I learned to fly on, and don't want to use that as low wing expirience because in my opinion, it may as well be a trainer as well.

I would prefer an ARF, because as much fun as I had building the PT40, I just dont have the time to take on another kit project right now. I guess I would rate my expirience right now as intermediate, as the Alpha and the Nexstar are really quite easy to fly now. However, I know a low-wing will be a totally new animal, so are there any out there that seem to be the standard for folks learning to fly a low wing? Thanks in advance for all the great advice.

If you want a low-wing sport plane that is easy to fly, but something that can be a bit more exciting than a typical low wing trainer, then take a really good look at the Great Planes Super Sportster 40 ARF. It can be flown as mildly or as wildly as the pilot wishes, depending upon the proper application of throttle.

The Super Sportster 40 ARF is also a very tough, solidly built airframe. If you have a few landings that are less than gentle, the plane will likely shrug them off. It's really difficult to express what a superior ARF the Super Sportster 40 really is without telling a bunch of stories to elaborate. If you check around thoroughly, however, I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find a single bad comment about this plane.

my second airplane was an ultra sport arf, it was hairy at first but i leared a lot on it. i would recommend a Kaos 40 that tower sells or a Mach II aerobatic trainer you simply cant beat 99 dollars http://www.gravesrc.com/AIRBORNE_MOD.../abma178nr.htm

Decide - 3 D or sport  and size now. So you do not spend time and money on the wrong goal.

Two classics are the Goldberg Tiger and Sig 4 Star series. Both come in 40 and 60 sizes.

They will land slow and smooth for your transition from the trainer. Both can really ring it out in the air with full control throws.

Best of both worlds.

Super Sportser 40       But I must admit, the $99. Hanger 9 Twist 40 , was good. As long as I kept it on low rates at first.<div>

Biggest bang for the least bucks fun sport 40 sized low wing arf is the Wold models Sky Raider Mach 2

Another vote for the Great Planes Escapade, mine looks sporty ,flies docile or wild depending on the seup and its cost effective. It will fly just great on an inexpensive 40 ish size 2 stroke. Ihave flown mine with both a Thunder tiger GP42 and an Irvine 36, very happy.

I second the Escapade or Pulse. There is a nice selection of low wing planes out there that are really nice flyers. Since the Escapade is so cheap several have shown up at our field now. One guy said he bought three of them at one time with Tower Hobbies' discount and put them on the shelf because of the low price :D

I have a Pulse XT 40 and have had a blast flying it. Cost is quite a bit higher than the Escapade though.

All good choices. I like the Super Sportster and 4* planes though. As ARFs go I too think the SS is a bit tougher then the 4*. One of my old students went with the Pulse, great plane also but I feel the SS is a better stunter, about a nickles worth better!:D Just pick the one you like the looks of best, they all fly very well. I noticed no one mentioned the Stick. I don't keep up with the ARFs {makes} but I have seen a few that were great and a couple that were total crap. One of my friends was just given one of the crap models so if you decide on a Stick I can find out what his is so you can stay away from it.;)

I fly a Super Stick 60 with a 91 4s and it flys great. Covering not worth a s***. The company sent me new covering. They had not wrapped the upper wing past the leading edge and it was starting to come loose before I ever flew it. But it does fly nice. 2nd one I've had. 1st one had and expiration date on it with my grandson.[&o][&o][&o]

Another vote for the GP Escapade. It looks great and you cant bet the pirce. I was actually suprised how well built it is for the cost. It is REALLY easy to assemble and a real blast to fly. I had almost got out of glow models completely till I got the Escapade with a OS 55AX and Tower muffler and what a great combo!
