os 46
I have a os 46 on my profile yak and i have been flying a xoar 12x6 is there a prop that will be better for 3d and hovering than the 12x6
I wonder how a 13x4 or a 12x7 or 12x8 would do |
RE: os 46
12" and 13" props are really too big for this engine. You are going to load it down and not get full power out of it this way. For 3D flying you want a lower pitch prop in the size range for the engine. For the OS 46 you want an 10" or 11" prop, anything from a 4 to a 6 pitch would probably work best.
As I have mentioned to others it's hard to recommend what is "best" for you and your plane. What works well for one person will not work well for another. Your best bet is to get several different props and then try each one. Then settle on the one that best suits your style of flying. Ken |

RE: os 46
OS makes the LA and AX .46 engine. The LA is spec for 1.2 HP vs 1.65 for the AX. That's a 33% difference over the LA.
Since you did not specify, we assume you are referring to the AX, since I think an 11" prop is all you can swing with the LA. |

If the engine is a FX or AX then yes what Teachu suggested is ideal for that airplane 12.25X3.75.
If it is an LA, SP or old SF then 11x4's, 11x5's or maybe 11x6 might be a better choice. The best choice is to start building your propwall now. First hand experimentation is important. John |

its the ax I have been running a 12x6 on it but I just bought me some 12x4 jxf or a xoar what ever you want to call it I cant wait to try it

RE: os 46
I use a 11/5 to 11/7 on my AX its a real puller you should be fine with a 11/4 for 3-D I am surprised your not getting some bogging with the 12 /6 props

RE: os 46
I don't fly 3D but a buddy of mine does and he is running an OS55AX with a 13-4 prop and it works pretty darn good. You might want to start there.
