Well, here I go, my first airplane!

@jetmech: Thanks for making sure I was aware that some use it pejoratively, jet. I choose not to be insulted by such small things, nor worry much about people who are. To me its a term of endearment for one of my great passions.

@Switch: It is a foamie. I really, really wanted the wood and "fabric" kit at nitroplanes.com, but don't have the skills I would need to fly it or repair it. Once I have some confidence in my flying and repairing, I want to step up to a nice kit like that, perhaps the Eflite Stearman. They are just so beautiful. I need to be sure I am not going to kill it though, it deserves better than me right now. I would welcome any advice on how I should comfortably progress... for instance in helis a bigger one is more stable than a smaller one, but more costly to crash. Is this true for airplanes? Its this sort of naivete I need to overcome before I can move up. Right now I am just looking at my little foamie, enjoying the sight of her before I fly her and possibly damage her...

I can't seem to find a definition that pertains to aeronautics... so why don't you enlighten me.

I don't see anyone offering to see their used TX to beginners when they have graduated to more exotic transmitters. A beginner would do well to find a good used one.  I have been looking around, and watching ebay too. I can't find used ones availabe anywhere.  Where would beginners find these ? Any suggestions on a good source?

Plank is a common flying term most often seen in reference to foam flying wings made from flat sheet foam. Also a common reference to slope combat wings.

Defn of slang "Plank": Idiot. There is no slang usage of "planker". Take a closer look at your PCsearch. I'm guessing that your search engine (e.g. Google) converted the search to "plonk". Big difference. So, jetmech, be careful with the PC slang cautions.

I asked a guy if he was a Duc(ati) guy. He was fine until he found a city slang definition for a duc guy - no upper case. Too much information.

I have an eagle II trainerI built that flies very well. I would take my engine and electronics out of it though. I currently have a super tiger 40 in it.., oops.. you were talking xmitter. Apoligize.. just saw that.

In my opnion.....entry level transmitters are quite cheap brand new these days, especially the 72mhz thye are still making. I have 3 (FM non-programmableHItecs 4 to 5 yrs old)and never had an issue and still use them along with a recently purchased Spektrum DX6i. I wiuld pick up a new inexpensive 4 channel. To be honest... w/out the EPA , ATV, Mixes andprgrammable differential, etc, etcc... you actually become more versed in how to setup your plane correclty from a mechanicalviewpoint andgenerally become a better pilot as you learn to "mix" manually via the sticks. (rudder, alieron, etc)

Learning to PROPERLY set up a plane is something that takes a bit of attention. It is something that eludes most beginners until someone helps them and then the plane flys SO MUCH BETTER that they can actually learn to fly (or to fly better).
Different planes have different set up requirements. I can set up a trainer well or a stik or such. But as I progress into more capable gliders I find I am still learning how to set up a plane. I always ask for help with 3D types and I have been flying 20 years or more.
You will bump into stories here about pilots that cuss ata plane that they don't like as much as they thought. Then someone helps them make some adjustments and WOW it is a whole new animal.

Do a search here on mechanical aileron differential and you have a start:D
