just a question about the lipos that come with micro planes. how do i store them for long periods of time?

Charge them and let them sit. How long are you storing them?

well i haven't gotten them yet, but just in case when i do get them, if i go on vacation somewhere.

Sometimes mine will sit for 3-4 weeks without being used. It's best to re-charge them again before you use them though.

A couple weeks for a vacation is nothing for those batteries. In general, you just need to keep them safe from big temperature swings. Put them in a closet or other place in the house where they won't be damaged. If you need to store them for 6 months or more, they'll last a little longer if you store them half charged in the same manner.

Store Lipos in a closet in your house? I have read to many stories about them catching on fire to be storing them that way. Our planes are always crashing so the Lipos get damaged. How can you tell when a Lipo has been damaged and presents a problem? I don't know. Yes, our cell phones also contain Lipos, but at least they do not crash often and have the batteries rolling all over the place. Someone at the field told me yesterday that they had to return a Lipo for possible warranty and that he was instructed to ship it in a fire safe bag or container. That is what people who most likely know Lipos are advising. I saw a model helicopter with Lipos take off and in a few seconds catch on fire, right in front of me, at our field. I feel I don't know enough about the use of Lipos not to be super careful with them.

Well, the one-cell LiPo's in question are the kind used in the indoor/ micro flyers. These batteries are of very little threat to anyone/anything. I leave them stored in the foam and cardboard box that the plane came in, and I don't worry about them one bit.

Yes, I am much more careful with my 3 and 4 cell Lipos, but these little batteries are not much to worry about.

There was a really good article in a recent issue of Model Aviation about Lipo batteries. While it is true there have been some documented cases of Lipo's catching fire, for the most part the myth that Lipo's are dangerous is a myth. For years we have been using them in our phones and computers with no problems. Most cases of Lipo failure are due to operator error. Mainly from improper charging, overheating from a improper set up, or using a damaged pack.

this is actually a good idea!!!! im going to follow your idea to store them in the box that the plane came in. and i also heard that if a 1 cell lipo were to blow, all that would happen would be smoke and very little to no fire.
