Avistar flew for it's first time
 

Well the Avistar flew for it's first time yesterday under the control of an instructor. We didnt have a buddy cord and he really didnt have alot of time so he took it up for a trim run, and determined the throws on the ailerons were to touchy. He landed it, I fueled it back up and we messed with the exponential to get the aileron throw tamed down. The second flight was great, but due to time constraints he had to go, I still just want to go fly it myself, I really feel like I can do it but as of now I am waiting until next saturday when I can buddy with someone again. I must admit I'm getting all antsy in the pantsy, can hardly wait. Well thats where I stand, hope I can wait until saturday and if not wish me luck and fair winds :stupid:

Just think about it this way; how will you feel when you try on your own, crash it, and don't have it to put on the buddy box next weekend? Even if the crash isn't devastating, the damage will take time to fix; do you have the time before next weekend? :D

Zach since no one was really willing to work with me at the local club I just kicked them to the curb, made my own runway and yup..flew my plane. Glad I did to. I know some here would prefer to be around a crowd while flying, perhapse showing off and acting "hip. Me on the other hand..I like no rules..loud tunes and the freedom of flying where I like, how I like and when I like. I say GO FOR IT!!! i just hope you have some time with an electric or atleast simulator. Also if you have not messed with the controlls then it should be pretty close to dead on where the teacher left it. Just taxi out and let her ripppp ;)

I fly full scale and I know that does nothing for me except maybe I have an understanding on the little things like aerodynamics and whatnot. I flew an electric aerobird for a few weeks before It finally hit a light pole and landed in an irrigation ditch and totally shorted itself out but yeah i was able to take off, fly aero (the little it could do) and land no problem. Damned light pole, who ever thought to put it right there. I also fly Real flight liek a pro now. I know alot, well everyone on this forum but you will argue this is not enough but I think it is and really feel confident in my abilities. I have most of tommorrow off before a night flight so I just might do it.

I think for me having some real flight experienc helped a lot because nobody had to tell me to circle for a landing and I knew how stuff works so I was ready for it. I only did about 2-3 hours on a simulator and the next day took my new Avistar to the field with a friend and a buddy box. He took off and for the next 3-4 flights he complained that his tumb hurts from holding the "trainer" button down. I was flying a solo and some basic aerobatics the next day.

However. I would have not taken it up to the air by myself and I don't recommand anyone without experience to do so.

What I do recommand is training with the Flight Model Simulator as the feeling on the simulator flying the avistar model was very much like the feeling in the field flying the actual modael.
