RE: finding your radios range
I can tell you for sure how far the range is with the antenna down[:@]:([:@]

RE: finding your radios range
Did that with a 33% Cap and an 8103 and got away with it. Plane was acting sluggish. Just happened to look down and didn't see the tip of the antenna. That was before 2.4Gz. I can't even blame it on that.

RE: finding your radios range
I did it way back and was very lucky. I took off, made a couple of orbits and just happened to look down at the transmitter. When I saw it, I called over to one of my buds near by and asked him if he would gently raise my antenna.. we all had a good laugh out of it, but I went and did it again a few weeks later, with less than favorable results.

RE: finding your radios range
I'm with the contingent of people who believe we fly way closer than some of us would like to believe. If your equipment is operating correctly and you can see your plane, you are in range.

Forgetting the antenna can happen with 2.4!
At least it can and did happen to me twice no less. I was using the first 'full range' system to reach the market XPS. The Tx module had a small three quarter inch protrusion sticking straight out the back. This was considered the Parkie antenna and for full range you screwed on a conventional 2.4 antenna agine straight out the back of the module. With this antenna installed it was hard to transport the radio in a case or starting box so unscrewing it was the only way to transport and darn well better reinstall each new day out. Of course the inevitable happened and I flew out of range not once but twice, agine another day. Both times the airplanes were destroyed. I have since retired those five Rx and the entire fleet is now Hitec. |
