yes yes im back here again lol. well i was busy with my rc cars so never got a chance on buying my micro plane. :( i have been told that the ember 2 is a good backyard flyer? is this the only one out there or would there be a better choice? sorry, i have asked this question a lot, but its been months and there may have been some changes if things change in aviation as quick as they do in cars.

Champ RTF is a great flyer that doesn't need a ton of space.. and its cheap.

oh and three more things. how do you know when you are ready to move from a trainer to a low winged plane like the micro P-51 D Mustang that parkzone has? also, is the micro P-51 D Mustang from parkzone a good second plane? and finally, do you need to sing up with the AMA to fly micros in the park or is that only for large scale club flying?

I've found the Ember2, while is slower than the Champ, has a bit more docile handling yet can out turn the Champ (yes, I have flown both, indoors and outdoors). My choice between the two for a first micro would be the Ember2 - I've got one and going to add a second one before long. The Ember2 also has a good ability to catch the lightest of thermals. It's my choice for flying from the driveway or patio when I don't care to fly my SU-26 or 4-site from the street.

For moving on, when you get to the point where you are truly in control of the plane then you should be able to handle something with more performance. That means that full throttle flying seems slow to you, you are recovering from stalls before the planes self-righting characteristics do it for you, you are putting the plane where you want to on demand, and you are doing precise landings. The P-51 will be faster and it won't protect you from beginner flying mistakes like the Champ will.
As for joining AMA, for park flyers it gives you an insurance policy and a large organization to advocate for you with the government. I think everyone who cares about the hobby should join just for the second part, but there are plenty who would rather enjoy the AMA's work on their behalf without paying for it. If you don't have any kind of personal liability policy, an AMA membership will cover you if you wreck your plane into someone's car or hurt someone at the school's property.

You should seriously consider the Parkzone Slo-V. It's like a giant Ember 2 but it doesn't fly a whole lot faster or require much more space. The 4' wingspan will allow it to fly in a breeze that would make flying a Champ or Ember 2 impossible, however.

There used to be video of the Slo-V flying inside of a basketball court on the Parkzone web site, but I'm not sure it's still there.

hmm....i will consider that. its not too expensive either! the ember is even more expensive that the slo-v. thanks looks like i may be heading towards the slo-v. an upside for me is that it comes with NIMH and i LOVE NIMH. its the only battery i use since i see no need in lipo being just a casual hobbyist just looking for something fun.

I doubt that the radio you indicated will work with the Slo-V because it doesn't look like it can do V-Tail mixing.

When you have a plane with a V-tail such as the Slo-V, the tail is shaped like a "V". There is a control surface on each side of the "V", and these take the place of both the elevator and rudder. The radio must be able to do the proper mixing so that it can translate the controls for rudder and elevator and transfer them to the V-tail to make the proper movements of the control surfaces.

No. I'm not sure what you mean, but a Cub is NOT a Slow Stck at all. Yes, they both fly with 3 channels (Elevator, Rudder, Throttle), but have totally diferent airframes.

I don't believe that there is "fuselage Version" of the slow stick. There are dozens of slow Stick Modifications(ailerons, landing gear, Camera mounts, etc.). A J-3 Cub and a Slow Stick are two very different birds, aerodynamically and aesthetically.
