Propeller balance
 

hi RCU.

I've recently completed my Kyosho Piper cup airplane and I will therefore be attempting a maiden flight soon. However I've noticed that my propeller is missing a small chip on one end as shown on the photo; Since I'm a beginner I'd like to know whether I should be worried by this or not in regard to vibration etc.. I didn't seem to have any problems during break-in on the ground.

The easy-fast-safe solution is replace the prop.

If in need of saving that prop, I would check it with a strong light and a magnifier, looking for crack lines.

If you find none, smooth the edges with a file or sandpaper and re-balance taking material away from the other blade.

I would just buy a new one. Props aren't that expensive, and a broken/cracked prop not only may not fly your plane properly, but can be dangerous as well. Just spend the $3 on a new one and give yourself peace of mind.

You didn't state size or make of the prop but if it's a good one then I do what LN said. A couple weeks ago I took off the tip of a 15X6 APC prop. I reshape them and balance then toss them in my box, I use them if I don't have a replacement when I'm out in the field. That one just looks like a little end nip so check it out good and do as LN said.

I wouldn't even touch it. If that prop is under 16" you'll never notice a difference (and neither will your engine)

Agreed with Minnflyer. I've flown them worse than that with no problems. A drop of thin CA will ensure that flight stress won't make it worse.
