Senior telemaster
 

Can anyone help me out to find the right size rubber bands to secure the senior telemaster wing? The size recommended is #65 (4" X 1/4"), and I have been online, checked the local hobby shops, office stores etc but no one seems to carry them!! Sveral maufacturers list them but won't sell to the public!!!

If someone could list a site or give me distributor who carries and sells them I would be eternally grateful....

Thanks Gents,

Unfortunately neither sites carry what is needed for the telemaster....the only rubber bands they carry are for the 40 size trainers. the senior telemaster has a 94" wingspan and approx 18" thick wing from leading edge to the rear......the standard ones just won't do the job (trust me I've tried!!!!). I guess it won't be ready for the funfly this weekend, and I'll have to research doing a conversion to a bolt on system....bummer!

 I have a senior telemaster and I have the info about the rubber bands you need. When I get home tonight I'll post that info for you.

Also, I've converted mine to a bolt on wing as well. Trust me, it's NOT a quick and easy task. Because of the design of the fuselage and wing you will need to do a major modification. But I'll post that tonight as well.

I haven't flown mine yet, but I was able to secure the wing with standard old #64 runner bands. You just need to give them a good limbering-up stretch before you put them on.

And, you will probably only be able to use them once. So, get a good supply.

I double the 64s, loop them together end on end. Works.

You will want to get the "45B" bands on this page. Those are 4.5" rubber bands

As far as converting the Telemaster to wing bolts, it takes a little bit of engineering. Because the wing sits on top of the fuselage formers there is no way to put dowels in the front of the wing in order to insert it into the front former. The wing bolts at the back of the wing are easy, but it's the dowels at the front of the wing that are the issue. Here is how Idid my wing to take care of this. Icut 3 ply pieces that are epoxied into the leading edge, the spar plates, and a piece in between the two to keep the dowels stable. Ithen used three dowels that will insert into the former in the fuselage. Idon't have any pictures of the former in the plane, but Istrengthened that up by epoxying a piece of 1/8" ply so that it hold the wing. This setup is a bit beefy, but Ineeded it for my Senior Telemaster. Iuse the plane to carry gliders up to altitude and lanuch them. The gliders are carried on a cradle on the wings so I wanted the wing mounting to be strong enough to take the extra force involved.

I had converted mine also so it was held on with nylon screws. I just walk into my local Office Depot and buy them. These are just rubber bands, you can buy smaller ones and loop tie them together to fit your plane. You only use them once.

Thank you Gents,

I ordered the rubber bands that RCKen listed, so that should make it possible to fly this weekend as I had hoped. With the "bolt" on system for the wings I am looking at going in a slightly different direction.....I am going to experiment with a spring loaded bolt system, if you imagine the latch systems used on some H9 canopy's to secure them, but a much beefier setup. Two spring loaded bolts on both the front and aft sections of the wing.

I'll post a build with photo's once I get to that, I just need to locate the spring loaded bolts tough enough for the job....that is assuming the telemaster survives this weekend!!

Use Velcro. You can buy it at Home Depot. You sew a loop on one end and that fits over the front dowels. I have seen Velcro used on many Tele's and never a failure.

Try Hobby Lobby, they have a # 64 which is listed as streching to 19". they also have the narrow blue bands which I used on my Telemaster.

Try looking up velcro wing mounting on the forum or contact me for explain -I typed up a good wow to but the darn thing here timed out and I aint doing it any more -to long for my slow fingers
