RE: When does the nevousness stop?

It's gone for me :( I say that becuase i do think we need to push it once in a while.

I've been flying now for 40 years, so there isn't much out there to make me nervous.

I did recently pick up a Baby Shark, Small little racer, roughly 150Mph on a 10oz plane, that finally waked them back up for a couple flights.

Flying really dosent' make me nervous but situations can, ie having a sail plane out to the limits of my site and getting caught in a boomer or flying the backside of a moutain and knowing that if you slipp up just a little it will be out of site, that gets me going, LOL.

Love this hobby. Frankly I'm glad I don't get the gitters, lets me focus on the task at hand.

A little bit of being nervous = Your having fun !!! If your hands are getting a bit shakey, enjoy it while it lasts !!! With each new airplane, there comes alot of fun and some new challenges. It wasn't until I bought the "Outlaw" from Extreme Flight RC, that I got a real taste of the shakes. Flying at 125 MPH will get your blood pumping. My hands would shake so bad it was sometimes hard to control that little speed demon. After flying that one, I can pretty much relax with anything else. If your really having trouble with being nervous, you may need to change the way you look at your airplane. Having the right mindset will help you relax. Skill and confidence will get you there too. OR... your airplane is "not up to specs" and you need to treat yourself to a Bigger, Better, Faster ONE !!!

I've been flying for a few years ................ both planes and helis. I still get nervous. I find the nerves to vary depending on the cost of the plane. ...............

+1 on these points, that said, for me they lessen with more stick time ..... but my heli can still give me the willy's at time, as I have a lot of money and time in that baby!

It's all part of the hobby. Practice touch and goes untill you can do them in your sleep. Your confidence will get stonger as you get better. Give your self goals like 3 touch and goes per flight then later 5 per and till you can do like 20. Remember It's a fun hobby. It's been a fun journey for me.
I agree with this thinking. The point is that growth in the hobby and challenging yourself to do and learn more, go hand in glove.

The nervousness should not really go away completely but it should be easy to control as experience is gained. The simplest way to gain the level of experience you need is to continuously challenge yourself. The easiest way to get challenged is to fly competively, be it Pattern, IMAC, Racing, even Scale

I found that the shakes go away about half way thru the flight and is replaced by a grin that last all day. That is if the plane flys like it should.

RE: When does the nevousness stop?

Yeah, as I've said, usually the first one or two flights of the day are really nervous, no matter when they are (first flight of the first day of the flying season or well into the season). I still am a bundle of nerves for a little while, doing simple orbits and trim adjustments. Then I get brave and do a couple of easy hammerheads. Then I set up for several landing passes - go around's, then a couple of touch-and-go's, then a landing. I rest a little while to unwind, then I put it back up.

The second flight is usually a bit more of the same, but I begin to get my boldness back and start to do more complex maneuvers, but always, way higher than I would do after the third or forth flight. But, usually, things calm down and the fun continues.

I've only been flying 3-4 years, and I'm pretty good, but still get nervous when I'm pushing my own envelope. Trying a move that's new to me, or that I don't have down yet. Or, of course, just after the occasional "dumb thumb", when I suddenly lose control of the plane and regain control in a nick-of-time (not that it happens often...). THAT will get your heart racing... And, of course, those first few flights right after a bad crash. Those nerves come right back.

Maiden flights in the middle of the winter in a couple feet of snow is the worst for me. Between being nervous and shivering, sometimes the sticks look like they are connected to a sewing machine. What a rush...

there's nothing like the adrenaline rush of a good flight i hope i never lose it. I will say that since i started flying my shakes calmed down quite a bit especially on maidens but its still there to let me know when i'm getting a bit to cocky on the sticks especially when you end up having to put in that last second roll input that saves your plane for another day :D

I've been flying off and on for years; the fear, shakes, anxiety, apprehension, never really goes away for me. The bigger the plane and risk, is directly proportional to my anxiety level. I try to control the fear and not let it control me. Usually I’ll start out my flying day with a little foamy to warm up on. Once that’s done I’m usually good. I do however find my hands shaking sometimes (maybe because I've had too much Rockstar energy drink!). I have found the more I fly in a season, the less my fear becomes. If it’s been awhile, I need to get right back in there and start flying again.

Ive had about 5 flights and my hands still shake and its getting
in the way of flying the plane.

I know in my mind I can control it but I still get
real nervous. When does it stop?

Jimmy
When you are bored and no longer enjoy the plane. Then you get a new one and it starts all over again...

RE: When does the nevousness stop?

I know how nervous I was when I got my co-axial heli off the ground the first time, I almost couldn't breath. At the 5th flight, the scary part was over, but whenever I fly my heli again, I can feel the adrenaline rushing through my blood. I can actually use the adrenaline I get from flying to win from my brother when running. I can go 14mp/h normally, but with adrenaline, I can hit 20 and hold that speed for half a minute. Adrenaline is actually quite handy when flying heli's or planes. You can react faster, think faster, move faster and do anything faster. Adrenaline is part of the hobby.

I still get nervous and feel that my heart will pound out of my chest. But usually it's in the Spring when flying season just begins, or if I'm maidening a plane that I really like. After I've had a few flights and get used to the behavior of each model the jitters seem to go away.

ROTFLMAO!

Have you been to my club recently????

Of late some flyers have a few of us hitting the decks now and then.

RE: When does the nevousness stop?

Ooooh.. yeah. Hey, I've done that a few times during my beginner days (fly over the pits by mistake). Folks did indeed duck-and-cover.

I was flying my Tiger 60 one day when a fellow RC'er was flying whatever he was flying went inverted and his canope fell off followed immediately by his battery. The plane augered straight in, and I mean vertically, about 10 feet from where we were all standing. There was a bench-chair next to the frequency pin board where two observers were seated.. the plane hit half way between them and the flight line, right behind me and right in front of them. It all happened so fast that the pilot was able to yell something unintelligible (I'm sure it was a really nasty swear word) just as it hit the ground. That was quite a show for the observers... and we all had to make a quick visit to the porta-potty. Now that will make EVERYONE a bit nervous!!!
