Can anyone identify this trainer?

My uncle gave me an old trainer he had in his attic and he cannot remember the name of the plane. It is a taildragger, built up fuse, had an HP 40 engine, no aileron control, and a span of about 80-90 inches. He thinks that it is a "Gooney Bird" but not for sure. Obviously flies very slow and supposed to be a great trainer. Would have been built in mid 80's. I am hoping to rebuild it when I develope more building skill.
Thanks for all your help on this website!
Steve

A picture would really help as there are several different planes that would fit the description your provided.

Yup - It sounds like a kit built Kadet. It was introduced in the 80's., so the time period is right. If it is, you have one of the best trainers available!<div>

Thanks for all your input Gentlemen, sorry I have no photos yet. But I did get my answer. I was looking through a very old box of plans and found the set for this thing. It is an RC version of the 1936 "Quaker" free flight, designed by Dick Mathis! I found plans for the original and the RC adaptation. I also found original plans for a Nobler, Oriental, Novi, RCM Trainer, Hoss Fly, Phoenix VI,Compensator, and an Eagle sail plane. Wonder if it's normal to get this excited about these finds from the attic?
