camera trickery......

camera trickery or faulty elevators? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90qcYnCLIoA forward to about 25 seconds, the elevator halves appear to be moving in opposite directions....

I believe thats a computer radio mix called "ailevator" or some others might call it "elevons"

No trickery there MJ ! One of my flying buddies has that mix set up on all of his profile planes, makes for an amazingly quick and sometimes violent snap roll!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Another name that is sometimes applied to that mix is Tailerons but Elevons is somewhat improper since that mix is only used for flying wings.

it must take balls to use a mix like that

You can use that mix as said above...but look closely and the vertical stab seems to be moving too.....perhaps it's a bit of mix and reflection of the covering from the vibration of the engine......

I don't know about those large scale types. They use all sorts of strange stuff.. :D But, they seem to do very well with what they program into their radio systems, don't they.

I'd say that was a camera effect, the same as what was happening with the prop.

The ailerons were not moving or being moved significantly (to my eyes at least) but the elevators were moving, so I call the vibration of the elevators was being picked up and smoothed out like the rotation of the prop, they look like they are moving smoothly when in real life they are actually shaking like crazy....

A tip to watch out for is that the elevators stop moving when the prop stops moving, section 45sec - 56sec shows this very clearly.

Very interesting to see just how much shaking is happening back there

Your right!! My buddy has his mix set up so that the elevators operate normally until both the rudder and ailerons are activated with at least 50% input. When flying on low rates, the mix doesn't activate at all, and when flying on high rates it doesn't activate as long as the stick inputs are gentle, but when he decides to get crazy, it gets crazy!!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif

Dead on! This is nothing more than a function of the frames per second meshing with the frequency of the tails vibration.

You can't be serious!!!! If his elevator is vibrating that bad, he better not fly it!!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif

Very serious, and it is not at all unusual or problematic on a light 3D aircraft.

I've seen jets set up like that.

But then again that was by people that actually know how to fly them.............................................. ..................................

Unlike many who have them on RCU

Ithought it was just an aliasing effect of the tail vibrating and the scanning rate of the camera.</p>
