Are there any aerobatic RTFs?
No. And forget aerobatics right now anyway. You'll need a trainer and an instructor to get started. In a two or three months maybe, if your a real quick learner, and you get together with an instructor at least once a week, you can think about a second plane with more aerobatic capabilities.

A trainer, by the way, is capable of most aerobatic manuevers.

Oh, you'll need to join the AMA before you can fly at any of the club fields around here. ;) AMA provides insurance, just in case.

Aerobatic RTFs???

DBCherry should I assume you know who Yub, yub, cmdr! is being from the same area??? DBCherry is correct if your not a seasoned pilot, I have a student that soloed in 3 weeks flat (a real natural) and he too wanted to jump the gun and go for the big gun aerobatic planes so I got my Ultrasport 40+ set up on a trainer box (mind you this plane can be more docile) anyhow it has a YS 63FZ on it wich is a lot of power on a plane this size but anyhow I got it up real high with the lower of the rates and let him take it for a few seconds to see what a aerobatic plane handles like Well it only took a few seconds for him to relize he was not at all ready for the planes he was looking at Actually I think it went something like this "Holy ****** TAKE IT" So I passed along one of my not so flown anymore planes to him cheap and gave him the engine to help him out being on a tight budget. After you get the trainer mastered than take a look at planes like the Kaos 40 or Ultra stick, These planes will be able to do most anything you can think of but won't be so proned to get out of control and won't be a hot landing plane like the Edge or extra's . When you are ready there are planes for lower prices that are very aerobatic, I've flown every weekend with good weather for 3 years and fly indoors in the winter I'm considering to get one of the aerobatic planes just now so don't be in a rush, You will get there.

And DBCherry if you guys have any Funfly's in your neck of the woods let me know, My little clan want's to do some road trips and it would be nice to meet you. There is one coming up in Bridgewater I plan to go to, Not sure if you get out that way much but if your interested I get the details for you.

Duantae,
I'm guilty of presumptions I'm afraid. Yub, yub is a new poster, and I'd read three of his threads, each of which was a question that said newbie to me. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Our club has a Fun Fly the first Sunday of every month. They're open to anyone, but AMA is required to fly at our site. (It's in our contract.)

I'll post a link to our website. Dates are posted there, and there are directions to the field as well. (Directions under club information.)

Where are you located?

Link: http://www.cmrcm.org/

Send me a PM if you have questions.

Would like very much to see you there. (Never met anyone from RCU. ;) )

Duantae,

Do you fly often at the club in Bridgewater? That is the club that I'll be flying at ( only 25 minutes away from me ). I was going to stop by there this morning on the way back from Boston, but it started to rain so I figured I try another day. I'll be looking for someone to instruct me if you know anyone in particular I should be looking for when I get there. Thanks. Tim

No I don't fly there but I have been meaning to get out there, I live in New Bedford and belong to BRISTOL COUNTY RADIO CONTROL and CLOUD DANCERS Both are in different parts of Dartmouth and someone is trying to start a new one in Fall River but I don't have details as of yet. If you are familiar with Hobby Tower in Swansea He can guide you to the people in Bridgewater, His name is Gary and is a great guy and very willing to help out with any problems you might have, Recently Becoming single I now fly all weekend when wheather permits.
DBCherry A few of us may be heading over to the Fun Fly on the 7TH What kind of compatitions do they hold (hehe so I can practice) and what size turn out do you usually have. If we make it ,There will be between 2-6 of us. Hope we make it there.

Yub, yub,
If you read this, you should come out for the Fun Fly too. It will give you a chance to see what this is all about, and to learn about different types of equipment.

Dauntae,
The fun flys are generally very low key stuff. Climb and glide, most loops in thirty seconds kind of stuff.

Turn out will depend on the weather forecast; our members seem to be picky and I can't figure them out, if there's a forecast for showers, we may not see anyone even if there isn't a cloud in sight. We generally will have 8 or 10 at most, so your contingent may constitute more than half the contestants. No prizes by the way (maybe ribbons), but no entry fees either.

I'm starting to think that having them the first of every month, May thru October is too often, which reduces the turnout.

We're also having a scale fly-in the next week, forget if it's Saturday or Sunday. It too is open to any AMA member. The last few years we've had a decent turnout for that, 20 to 30 pilots from all around.

You need to keep one thing in mind if you're going to practice flying for 'our' events; short field landings. Our field is, for all practical purposes, only about 200 feet long, and about 60 feet wide at the narrow end. It also runs uphill a bit from left to right. Landings from left to right are okay, but right to left is tougher because the ground is always falling out from under you. The approaches are fairly open though, so it's manageable. ;)

I'm making the field sound worse than it really is (kind of). But we have a good bunch of guys, so please come on out, you'll have a good time at least. :D

wait... where can i get directions to the field??

Aerobatic RTFs???

Yup Yup these are the directions to the field from there web page http://www.cmrcm.org/modules.php?nam...showpage&pid=2 Depending if there is enough room I'll try to fit our club trainer in to bring also and also depending id DBcherry's club has a trainer you could go up on, I'm my clubs trainer but not all clubs have a plane that is club property and we where fortunate enough to have different members all donate a bit of extra stuff so we put it all together and wala... We got a club trainer.

Dennis I conpletely relate to your field, My main flying site is also on Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife property, Your club sounds a lot like this one, Good group and everyone always helping someone else. I'll try to post a few pics from our last funfly.

Aerobatic RTFs???

Thanks for replying to Yub's question Dauntae. We do not have a club trainer any longer. We had set one up a couple of years back, but it was only used once in two years.

At the time, we had one guy who probably did 75% of the training. I'm guessing he taught, on average, 6 to 8 guys a week.
When he dropped from the club we let him keep the trainer for all the work he'd done.

Yub,
It's not hard to get to our field, take 290 east to the Church treet exit. Head into Northboro. In the center of Northboro follow Rte 135.
A couple miles out of town you'll see a large athletic park on the left, go past that, maybe a quarter of a mile and watch for an orange gate just oiff the left side of the road. (It's IMMEDIATELY after a brown house.)
If you get to the Koch sign, you've gone too far.

Your posting seems to indicate you are a glo flyer so I presume you want to stay with glo.

However, if you ever want to take a taste of electrics here are a few that are aerobatic or 3D capable. While the glo planes are larger and more powerful, these can be flown in places where glo planes are not permitted.

In some areas you might be able to fly these at parks, school yards, sports fields, etc. Electrics are quiet, so the neighbors are not as likely to object.

Anyway, here they are.

Most have videos associated with their links.

Duantae,

Is there a flying field at your club in Dartmouth? I'm from Fairhaven.

Dauntae 08-21-2003 03:58 AM

Aerobatic RTFs???

Yes about 5 min from the Dartmouth mall, Will be there this weekend, If you want we could meet up there and I'll take you up on the trainer to give it a try, Have you flown at all yet, If not I must warn you.... IT'S DARN ADDICTING!!!!!!! :spinnyeye I checked on the fun-fly in Bridgewater and they might not have it this year but are planning a scale fly-in in Sept sometime,

Directions are easy, Take the North Dartmouth exit like your heading to the Mall and when you get to the light where the Mobile gas station will be right on your left side you take a right go to the first stop sign and take another right, This is Hixville road, you will go for a few miles and over some railroad tracks guessing about 2 miles after the tracks you will see a brown sign for the Fisheries and Wildlife on the left with a dirt parking lot, If you want PM me your phone # and I can give you a call from work (I work 2nd shift) and work out any details, I plan to be there Sat and Sun and hopefully the wheather holds out and if you decide to join and I train you there is one small price........ You have to do a McDonalds run :D JK we all take turns. every week someone goes to pick up lunch, Great bunch we have there.

Hope to see you there.

timnbrody I just found a few of your threads, I could bring you up with the club trainer or your own, If you choose yours one of the members have a trainer cord to work with a 9c and I won't have you train with any youngsters :D You will be stuck with a thirty something guy (that would be me) OH and if you join it is only $35 a year and if you don't have your AMA card yet it is OK I'm a registered trainer with AMA and can take non AMA people on the trainer box and the ins. will still be there.
