ORIGINAL: RCER88 If I was going to buy a new engine I would go to HK and buy the ASP 46. Same as a magnum. Those engines are old OS castings that OS sold off years ago. Good motors and inexpensive. I use many different HK servos. priced from 1.99 to 10.99 and not had a single failure. I know you use spektrum and that is your choice. I have a Turnigy 9x radio that I have been flying for three years now and fly electrics all the way to gas powered on it. with six and eight channel receivers. Cost less than $14.00 apiece. No problems no failures. You could go to HK buy a ASP engine, 10 servos and with shipping and spend less than $150.00. I recently bought the new orange metal gear and standard servos at less than four bucks apiece and installed them in a Sig Sun Dancer Bipe. They perform flawlessly and I will not hesitate to buy more in the future. They are analog and I use them on a 4 cell nimh pack. Metal gear on control surfaces and a standard (nylon gear) on throttle. If you do your homework HK has some wonderful products at a fraction of the cost of stuff in the states. Good luck. I'll keep this in mind when Ibuild my next plane. Ihavent picked anything out yet, it may be a twin engine bomber, or the Cessna 310, depending on what Ifind. It has been years, no decades since Ilast stick built a plane, the last being a Piper Cub, Goldberg model. Inever flew it, didnt have the money to complete the build, needed a new radio, muffler, wheels, and a couple other items to complete it. My radio at the time was being phased out, so Icoulnt use it. THe field at the time had given notice they were no longer allowing the old radios on the field. Ithink this is when the FMradios were out, and mine was the old AM type(I think, its been over 25 years). My radio could be knocked out by a strong CB radio or a pager at that time too. Had lost one plane with it due to a hit. Who knows, maybe I will build another Cub, maybe a clipped wing version, but whatever it is, it will be BIG! Hmmm, maybe a giant scale T-28, then Ican sit my UMnext to it, or attach it to the belly of it, and drop it like a X-palne. Now if I win the lottery, heh heh it will be a warbird with one of those radial engines in it, maybe a Jug, or Corsair, now that would be fun. OOO a B-17 with 4 of those radials in it. Having flown the T=34, I reccommend a Bridi Aircruiser. Or perhaps the Sun Fli or Kaos. If you want a fast .40 sized plane the Vagabond would be good as well. Low priced kits and they are easy builds.
http://www.bridiairplanes.com/hangar/ Opps you haven't flown the T-34 yet. Well the Krafty or Aircruiser would be good. Both are very aerobatic, fly well with a .46 and fast with a .60. For engines I see no need to go overseas. I would use a Fox .45 or Fox .60 in these planes. If you have a junker you can trade it in for 50% off. Ooh nice link, that Killer Bee looks like a good choice, 1/4 scale, big plane, just what I am looking at. I'll get stick time on the T-34 soon enough, just need to get some flights on the Apprentice 15e before Itake the 34 up. The one Igot should be pretty easy to take off and land at my house, the 34 though, without knowing how much room I need, Ihave to wait on. This weekend Ishould have my first flights on the Apprentice, Ihave to assemble it first, but its pretty straight forward, the wing takes the longest since it has to be glued together. Ididn't have any 30 m epoxy at home, so picking some up tonight to glue it together, and Ishould be ready to fly by Thursday.
