Mini Servo
are there any good chinese mini servos out there... i definitely dont wanna use http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXN667&P=ML ive had too man fail on me, even on light duty stuff like throttles and chokes
i will be getting a Don Muddiman Flying Machine soon, and it comes as an ARF with mini servo cutouts in the ailerons... |

"Chinese" and "good" don't go together. That plane is going to be hard on servos, so you'll be well served to get the best ones you can afford. If you're on a budget, the Hitec mini's at $18 (servo city) should do well in it.

Airtronics and Futaba both make standard servos that are around 10 bucks. I use the Airtronics standard servo on a lot of my planes and they work just fine. And, at that price, well, it's hardly worth getting a cheap Chinese servo and wondering if they will work or not. CGr. |

I had exactly the same problems he is citing with the very Hitec's you are recommending... the Hitec minis have proven to be very problematic for me. As have been the HS-81's and the other Hitec Mini's... Even the Tower Minis ( based upon Futaba's ) do a good job compared to the Hitecs... though the Tower torque values are not that high in practice. Some of the HobbyKing/HobbyCity high torque ones exceed the performance and torque of standard high torque servos, so I've gone with them in applications that require Minis or where I want to save some weight. There are wide variations in their available models though and that is what I find problematic. Some are good, some you couldn't give me. I've had to resort to buying a couple and testing before I start using them on planes... ugh. |

ORIGINAL: Muddiman 1) RC Maniac119 -The O.S. 32 is a hot engine for sure but I don't think it would have the low end torque to swing a 9x6 and accelerate the FM quickly out of it's stalled maneuvers. But I could be wrong. 2) CONDOR Hobbies per contract now has all rights to the Flying Machine. 3) The new FM ARF will be using two mini servos for the ailerons. 4) Using a tuned pipe can add up to 800-1500 RPM depending upon your setup. The muffled version works just as well. This a a major performance boost. 5) I have not found a source for the 4D Carburetor other than buying an old engine. Tower sells the .55 carb but it's a bit pricey. The other option I have not tried is using the Thunder Tiger .46 Pro engine or it's carb on the OS .46Ax. Don |

I won't get into what works or doesn't work but I will say I have been using the Hitec HS 81 for years without a failure. I used them in race planes for the ailerons and throttle. At the moment I have a class-C pattern plane and I use one for the throttle and one for the nose {trike} LG for steering. They have proven themselves to me to not be effected by the vibration of a glow engine. They can be had with metal gears but the nylon gears have worked for me. Tower doesn't make anything, they distribute products with there name on it. I still have several of there servos on hand from days gone by, I think they were made by Futaba.
